Nyamatusi Mahogany is owned and run by African Bush Camps. This company offers authentic safaris within some of the wildest reserves and parks across Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Among its successes in Zim alone are Kanga Camp, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge, and the Somalisa properties. The accommodation will be booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, all game activities, national parks fees, transfers between the camp and the local airstrip, and a laundry service. It’ll be possible to book the camp exclusively for a minimum of 12 persons, and in common with sister property Nyamatusi Camp it’ll be open from 1st April to 30th November every year.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp will be approached via road transfer from Mana Pools’ airstrip. It’ll be positioned on the banks of the Zambezi river, in the national park’s remote eastern region.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
There will be four guest suites – two standard suites and two for family use. We’ve seen the artist’s impression of one of the standard suites. This shows a large canvas tent elevated on wooden decking. Inside, a lower level contains a seating area, and the upper level has a double bed. Twin beds might also be available. Within the bedroom, we can also make out mosquito nets, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and storage furniture. According to African Bush Camps, every suite will be air conditioned, and additional amenities will include a mini-bar, a tea-and-coffee station, and a safe. The en-suite facilities are pictured behind the bedroom – just the twin washbasins are visible, but we’d expect there to be a flush toilet too, as well as the indoor and outdoor showers mentioned by the company. Dressing gowns will be supplied. When it comes to the family accommodation, we anticipate extra bedroom space for at least two children – we’ll update this page once we’ve received further information. We know for sure that every suite boasts a private plunge pool and beautiful river views!
A drawing of Nyamatusi Mahogany’s communal lodge has been provided too. It’ll be a two-storey timber-and-thatch structure, with pleasant lounge and dining areas plus a couple of bars. The palette appears neutral, and all furnishings show contemporary flair. A few artefacts should add a little intrigue, and the lighting looks very elegant to us. On each level of the lodge, there’s a viewing deck – on the lower level, it’s set with chairs and a sofa, perfect for relaxing and watching wildlife! From here, guests will descend a few steps into the fire-pit, an almost complete circle of cushioned seating around the campfire. We predict this will form the heart of camp, where travellers will gather to share safari stories. And as this is an African Bush Camps property, we reckon food and drink will be seriously tasty – and service standards should be sky high!
An exhilarating variety of activities will be available, all in a wildlife-rich region of Mana Pools. The park includes a wealth of water sources, as well as river banks, sandbanks, islets, and forests of big baobab, fig, ebony, and of course mahogany trees! Four of the Big Five live here – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. There are lots of smaller carnivores too, such as cheetah, hyena, and occasional wild dog, while the herbivore count features zebra, warthog, waterbuck, eland, impala, monkey, and baboon. Hippopotamus and crocodile abound in the park’s rivers, streams, and pools. All these species and more may well be viewed on expertly guided game drives within the concession. Please note, walking safaris will be offered to travellers aged 16 years and over. However, youngsters will be invited to join nature walks around camp, so no one need miss out on taking a closer look at the concession’s plants, insects, and hundreds of colourful birds! Canoe trips will also be possible, as will catch-and-release fishing. For more details on staying at Nyamatusi Mahogany, please get in touch with a member of the YZ team.
