"Owner run and managed by Steve and Wendy, this is a camp for the safari purists. Musango is of a simple nature, but you come here for the high-quality guiding and attentive yet unfussy service. Steve and his team ensure your stay here is truly memorable, while the lake setting makes for an enjoyable and relaxing safari."

OVERVIEW:

Guiding is of an exceptionally high standard from Musango. The enthusiasm of Steve Edwards and his team really comes across, not only in their knowledge of the wildlife in this region but also in their passion for conservation and wider cultural concerns. Back at camp, food and drink are first rate and children are just as welcome as adults. Many guests find it difficult to leave!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is situated on a private island on Lake Kariba, a short distance from the national park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MUSANGO SAFARI CAMP:

The main lodge at Musango is a double-storied building made of wood and thatch. On the lower floor, there is a comfortable lounge with reception area and a good selection of reading material, in addition to a semi-circular dining table for evening meals. Breakfast and brunch are typically enjoyed upstairs on the deck, which boasts superb views over the lake. The small swimming pool slots neatly into the downstairs accommodation and the camp also benefits from a gorgeous garden featuring well-kept lawns.

**Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in!**

Musango has six safari tents and two honeymoon suites, all linked to the main lodge along gravel tracks. Each tent has a concrete base, supporting canvas walls and a large thatched roof. Inside, there are twin beds, reading lights, a laundry basket, and en-suite facilities in the form of a natural stone structure housing flush toilet, ceramic washbasin and a partly outdoor shower. At the front of the tent, there is a veranda offering amazing vistas across the lake to the east, to the sunrise. The honeymoon suites have a double bed each and all the features of the tents in addition to a small plunge pool. These properties have stone walls under thatch, perfect for a little extra privacy!

ACTIVITIES AT MUSANGO SAFARI CAMP:

There are plenty of things to do at Musango.

  • Matusadona National Park is a fabulous location for game drives and walking safaris! The area is full of elephant, lion and buffalo, as well as offering a sanctuary for black rhino. Musango itself assisted with bringing black rhino back to the park and one true highlight here is tracking the animals on foot.
  • Other activities include boating safaris and fishing on the lake (especially from April to October), birdwatching, visits to the local village to meet the Tonga people, and sailing to Starvation Island in Musango’s 23-foot catamaran.
  • Starvation Island is thus termed because during high tides animals are stranded, unable to return to the mainland. The combination of park and lake makes for a dream destination, with loads of photo opportunities! And the fishing here is world famous – and justifiably so.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
