Mpala Jena is owned and run by Great Plains Conservation. This company specialises in conservation tourism, and it’s a bit of a favourite at YZ! We recommend the camp to travellers seeking classic safari experiences in addition to access to Victoria Falls. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, wildlife-viewing activities, transfers between the camp and Victoria Falls International Airport (by road or road-and-boat), and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp is accessed via road or road-and-boat transfer from Victoria Falls International Airport. It’s situated within a private concession on the banks of the mighty Zambezi river, just 16 kilometres from the Falls.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MPALA JENA CAMP:
The camp has just four guest tents, all set up in the shade of a mixture of trees including sausage tree! Each tent is made from beige canvas, with netted apertures providing amazing views of the River Zambezi. Inside, Moroccan influences are present in the super-stylish décor. There’s a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, and a small lounge area featuring a writing desk and chair. The en-suite facilities comprise separate flush toilet, twin washbasins, a shower, and a big bathtub! And at the front of every tent, there’s a deck with comfy seating and a private plunge pool.
Mpala Jena’s communal facilities are found in a large mess tent, also with lovely river views. This tent contains a comfortable lounge and a smart dining area, both styled in a Moroccan manner! A short distance away, there’s a fire-pit – guests regularly gather here to sink sundowners while sharing stories of their day on safari and at Vic Falls.
ACTIVITIES AT MPALA JENA CAMP:
The camp offers a superb base from which to explore Zambezi National Park and Victoria Falls. Activities include the following:
Expertly guided game drivesThese take place during early morning and late afternoon, within Mpala Jena’s private concession. Wildlife highlights here consist of sturdy populations of elephant, buffalo, and hippo, as well as lion and wild dog.
Walking safarisAlso enjoyed in the presence of knowledgeable and experienced guides, walks are perfect for travellers who are interested in taking a look at the smaller aspects of the concession. For example, you can scrutinise the insects, plants, and bird life – there are hundreds of types of feathery friend here!
Boating safarisThe availability of this activity depends on water levels, so if you’re particularly keen to go boating please mention this to a member of our team while discussing your holiday. It’s an exciting opportunity to see a lot of hippo, as well as ample waterbirds.
Victoria Falls toursThe camp provides one entrance ticket to see the Falls per guest’s stay and on a self-guided basis. Victoria Falls activities range from – watersports, river cruises, helicopter flights, and much more.
