OVERVIEW:

As a Wilderness property, Wilderness Little Makalolo (known affectionately as ‘Little Mak') benefits from a team that has over thirty years’ experience in safari design. Their aim is ‘to get to know the wilderness better, to respect it, care for it and share it’ – and this passion reverberates through camp. Additionally, food and drink are of very high standard, with private dining available on request.

WILDERNESS LITTLE MAKALOLO LOCATION & ACCESS:

It is situated in the east region of Hwange National Park, within its own concession and overlooking a waterhole teeming with wildlife!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WILDERNESS LITTLE MAKALOLO CAMP:

The main facilities of Wilderness Little Mak are based around a majestic false mopane tree. They comprise a large dining area with communal table and self-serve tea/coffee station, a lounge area with sofas and easy chairs, and a small adjoining library with a good stock of books, magazines and board games. All this is fronted by an outdoor firepit, a fantastic focal point of camp that is perfect for morning beverages and evening sundowners alike! The camp also boasts a plunge pool.

Wilderness Little Mak’s guest accommodation consists of six tents including a family unit, all linked to the communal areas via teak walkways. The tents are constructed in safari style, with timber frames supporting canvas walls and mesh windows allowing fresh breezes to circulate. The interiors are simple yet classy, featuring warm wood and brass notes and a spread of rugs for comfort. Each tent has a writing table, a fan, a box safe, double doors onto a private veranda with waterhole views, and en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, washbasin, and indoor and outdoor shower. The camp uses solar power.

WILDERNESS LITTLE MAKALOLO ACTIVITIES:

Activities at Wilderness Little Mak comprise vehicle safaris by day and by night, walking safaris during the morning, viewing from hides, village visits and a stay at Star Bed for keen stargazers!

  • This area of Hwange contains a wealth of wildlife. During the day, visitors sight lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe – and many more! There are also over 400 species of bird.
  • At night, animals such as pangolin, mongoose, lesser bushbaby and honey badger come out to play.
  • The hides in this area include Makalolo Plains’ treehouse and Wilderness Little Mak’s own logpile, both located close to a waterhole.
  • The Star Bed is positioned 20 minutes’ drive from camp and offers a thrilling and intimate night under the stars, while village visits consist of a four-hour tour in which guests check out the local school and meet the headperson and villagers.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
