OVERVIEW:

If you love life on the edge – literally – you will have a terrific time at this gorgeous lodge! Situated a short distance from the Falls, it offers a peaceful base to explore the area and to meet the local people. Highly recommended by YZ! It is renowned for its truly breathtaking views, described by many travellers as the best in all southern Africa.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is situated on the edge of Batoka Gorge, 200m above the majestic Zambezi River and 10km upstream from Victoria Falls

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GORGES LODGE:

The communal areas of camp are housed within a stone-and-thatch building overlooking the Zambezi, flanked by beautiful tropical gardens and positioned on the edge of the gorge. There is a very homely lounge with comfortable seating, coffee tables, rugs, and a selection of paintings and tapestries on the walls. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available to guests. The dining room is open sided and has amazing views down to the river – as does the bar, which has its own deck too. Just outside the main lodge, there is a swimming pool with sunloungers and picnic benches.

Gorges’ ten stone-and-thatch guest chalets are located either side of the main lodge, along the edge of the gorge. There are three categories – single-storey honeymoon suite, single-storey twin-bed suite and double-storey twin-bed suite. The single-storey dwellings have an overhead fan, mains electricity with back-up generator, mosquito netting, lounge area, mini bar, tea- and coffee-making facilities, en-suite changing room with basin, bathroom with flush toilet, basin, bath and separate shower, and private veranda with superb views. The double-storey chalets have all these features, but the layout is different – upstairs there is a bedroom and balcony, while downstairs there is a changing room that can function as a bedroom for up to two children.

ACTIVITIES AT GORGES LODGE:

There is a full menu of activities from Gorges Lodge.

  • The all-inclusive option includes two activities per paying night and guests choose from a guided tour of the Falls, a Gorge walk with snacks and sundowners, black eagle viewing also with snacks and sundowners, a sundowner cruise, a visit to the local village, a school tour, shopping for curios at the craft village and a traditional dancing display.
  • Additionally, the staff at Gorges are happy to organise all Victoria Falls activities – white water rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, abseiling, helicopter flights, and many more! And the location of the lodge makes for excellent birdwatching – for many eagles, falcons, owls, hornbills and cuckoos, the gorge is home.

*This property is unfenced and although animal densities are not that high along this stretch of the Zambezi River, there is always the potential for dangerous game. So if you opt to stay here please always be cautious and look out for wildlife when walking around, especially at night.
