"One of the newest camps in the park, Three Rivers has luxury tents and sleep-out platforms, so you can choose how adventurous you want to be!"

OVERVIEW:

The name is inspired by the three rivers forming a confluence close to the camp’s location – Luangwa, Kapamba, and Lusangazi. It may be early days for this new camp, but already Three Rivers Camp looks like another impressive property from Kafunta.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

To access the camp, the majority of travellers will take the one-hour flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe, and then transfer the remaining distance by road. The latter journey, lasting about three hours, is a great opportunity to check out the local wildlife!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THREE RIVERS CAMP:

Three Rivers is positioned in the shade of sausage trees and boasts beautiful views over river beaches and the rippling water. Already we know that it is not uncommon for guests to spot hippos and crocodiles, as well as some brilliant birdlife! The camp also has a bar, and meals are often enjoyed al fresco at a candlelit table, under the star-studded South Luangwa skies.

Guest accommodation at Three Rivers consists of five tents, all set close to the river or on the banks of a lagoon. Each is raised on a wooden platform to create a private veranda, set with a couple of chairs and a small table. An additional upper level contains two day beds, which function as star beds come nightfall. Inside the tent, there is a comfy double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a seating area, and en-suite facilities that include both indoor and outdoor showers! The décor is very stylish, and the palette is earthy tones with patterns and a few sky blues. Every tent also has gauzed windows, allowing fresh breezes through.

ACTIVITIES AT THREE RIVERS CAMP:

  • Three Rivers offers classic safari activities – day and night game drives, and bush walks too!
  • Typically the first drive starts out at 6 o’clock, lasting for about four hours, with the second beginning at 4 in the afternoon. This part of the South Luangwa is home to predators such as lion, leopard, and wild dog, as well as elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, and the elusive roan antelope. There are also hundreds of bird species for fans of the feathery friends!
  • Afternoon game drives often extend into the evening, so guests have a chance to see nocturnal species – civet, genet, mongoose, honey badger, and prickly porcupine. The bush walks start at 6am too, providing a really close look at the nature of the park.
  • The experience of walking among wildlife is memorable, and highly recommended by YZ! If you wish, you can even opt to walk between Three Rivers and a couple of other Kafunta properties – Kafunta River Lodge and Island Bush Camp.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
