"If you are looking for a traditional bush camp in a remote location with some of the best walking anywhere in Africa, look no further, this fantastic little bush camp is unbeatable."

OVERVIEW:

Kuyenda Bush Camp is owned and run by The Bushcamp Company. Formed in 1999, this company has a total of six camps and is the only operator in the southern section of the South Luangwa. Accommodation is booked on a full board basis and the camp is open from late May through to early November, a longer period than before the rebuild!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is situated in the shade of trees on the banks of the Manzi river, within the South Luangwa National Park. It’s accessed via road transfer from Mfuwe Airport.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KUYENDA BUSH CAMP:

Guest accommodation consists of six reed-and-thatch rondavels (circular huts), each raised on a neat teak platform. Three steps lead up onto a private deck, on which you’ll find a couple of chairs and a table. This is the perfect place for watching the wildlife come to the Manzi riverbed at the front of camp. Entering the rondavel, you’ll find a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside stands, solar lighting, mosquito nets, and smart open-air en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, hand-carved stone washbasins, and a lovely shower column. Before the camp was redesigned, there were bucket showers, but now hot and cold running water is available.

There have also been a few changes to the main areas of Kuyenda Bush Camp. These too are now raised on teak decking. The lounge and dining spaces have been repositioned and extended, to offer breathtaking vistas over the nearby plain as far as the N’Chindeni Hills. Interiors are exquisitely appointed. The lounge features an assortment of sofas and chairs around chic coffee tables, while the dining area has upright chairs and tables, all with a back-to-nature theme. And a short distance from the communal structure you’ll find the camp’s welcoming fire-pit, which is fantastic for getting to know your fellow guests and sharing safari stories!

ACTIVITIES AT KUYENDA BUSH CAMP:

The camp offers classic safari activities, as follows:

  • Walking safaris

    – Led by an expert guide, walks make up the main activity from Kuyenda. Setting off during the early morning, before the heat of the day, you’ll enjoy a very close look around the local area. Your guide will introduce you to many of the South Luangwa’s plants and insects, with opportunities to spot larger game too. And the scenery in this part of the world is absolutely spectacular, making the experience particularly memorable.
  • Vehicle safaris

    – Drives are also available during early morning, as well as late afternoon into evening. This is an opportunity to cover a lot of ground on your safari, spotting all manner of wildlife on the way. Highlights of this part of the South Luangwa include four of the Big Five – lion, elephant, leopard and Cape buffalo. There are Nile crocodile too, as well as hippo, warthog, eland, impala, spotted hyena, and greater kudu. And you might see some species that are unique to the Luangwa – Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest, and Crawshay’s zebra.
  • Birdwatching

    – Considered a dream destination for birders, the South Luangwa always delivers for fans of the feathery friends. Over 400 types of bird have been recorded here, not least very notable avians such as the great white pelican, the southern carmine bee-eater, and Verreaux’s eagle-owl. So don’t forget to pack your binocs – or your camera, if you’d like to return from safari with some amazing photos!
