"Kapamba has been a fantastic place to see wild dog the past few years."

OVERVIEW:

Kapamba’s décor has a slight Moroccan touch to it and the accommodation comprises a more permanent structure than any of the other bush camps. One of the highlights here has to be the sunken bath – this makes for a relaxing warm soak in the cooler months, but it transforms into a plunge pool during hotter times.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Kapamba is located in the remote southern section of South Luangwa National Park. It is open from April to January, the longest duration of the bush camps. This camp works perfectly in combination with some of its sister camps in South Luangwa.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KAPAMBA BUSHCAMP:

There are four open-fronted rooms. All have wrought iron shutters that are drawn in the evenings, so you can still enjoy the African air and noises without being disturbed by any unwanted visitors.

The main area of camp is open fronted and sided to the shallow Kapamba River. Half of the area is covered with comfortable built-in sofas and a large dining table for lunches and dinners if the weather is not ideal. Breakfast and dinner are usually taken at the front of the main area, which is open to the stars and boasts an amazing view of the Kapamba River. There is also a comfortable sitting space, where guests spend their time between game drives looking out for animals coming down to the water.

ACTIVITIES AT KAPAMBA BUSHCAMP:

  • Activities include morning and afternoon game drives and bush walks.
  • One of the highlights of staying at Kapamba is walking across the river in front of the lodge – and sometimes they even serve sundowners in the river.
  • The downside to the lodge is that there is usually only one guide in camp, so if there is a full camp then you will most likely be on an activity with eight guests.
  • Additionally, there is very little flexibility with activities unless the whole group agrees. A normal day will include a morning walk and an afternoon/evening game drive.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
