Again, unbelievable value at this time of year. Serengeti Safari Camp is the first place I’ll mention – the first-ever mobile and arguably the very best of the mobile camps. Nomad Tanzania run this camp – a company known for owning some of the finest authentic product in Africa. The guiding here is superb whilst a high quality, authentic experience is the companies focus. Four nights for the price of three is unbelievably good value.

Alex Walkers Serian camps are also well worth a mention; truly superb privately guided owner run camps. However they tend to open around the 15th December most years - you might be lucky.

The next company to mention is Asilia. Asilia work on the basis of a 'tiered' pricing system whereby less busy days offer better value...so rates can change day by day. Their permanent camps Dunia Camp and Namiri Plains (Namiri is the perfect location for the first two weeks of December) are exceptionally good properties whilst their mobile camps Olakira and Ubuntu are also well worth a look towards the end of the month when their areas tend to have the larger herds.

Taking the luxury levels up a notch and Mwiba is one of the best permanent lodges in the Serengeti. It is incredibly high quality – a genuinely 5* luxury camp – and one that is located in a vast private reserve. Exclusivity is guaranteed. This is a property that guarantees some of the best food and service of anywhere in the country. The property has high prices but delivers a genuinely top quality safari experience.

Your budget lets you cherry-pick from the best. I’ll suggest a couple of different styles of accommodation – the mobile camps that the Serengeti is so famous for, and the best of the permanent lodges (with swimming pools etc).

Alex Walker’s Serian Serengeti is the next company to look at. Alex is one of Africa’s most famous guides and his camps Serian Kakessio and Serian Serengeti Lamai are nothing short of exceptional. With a team of guides regarded as some of the best in Africa, the big difference here from most camps is the fact that Alex also offers private vehicles as standard throughout his camps. Alex often hosts in camp (usually at Kakessio), which is a rarity in itself. His team have won a number of industry awards. If an adventure is what you are looking for then look no further.
