Serengeti Safari Camp is the first place I’ll mention – the first-ever mobile and arguably the very best of the mobile camps. Nomad Tanzania run this camp – a company known for owning some of the finest authentic product in Africa. The guiding here is superb whilst a high quality, authentic experience is the companies focus. I cannot speak of them highly enough – think adventurous nights under canvas and chats with your guides around campfires under the stars. That’s what safari is all about!
If you are looking for a more luxurious camp then there are two options to consider – Lemala’s new Nanyukie is the smartest and newest property around whereas Elewana’s Pioneer Camp is one of the most established luxury properties in the central plains.
One of the best value luxury camp, however, is &beyond’s Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp. Located in the Western Serengeti this luxury tented property is run by one of the very best safari companies and has an enviable location on the hippo filled Grumeti River. Combining this property with the famous Ngorongoro Crater Lodge sees unbelievably good value for money at this time of year.
The stand out company for luxury safaris however are Singita. Sitting in a private reserve above the Western Corridor of the Serengeti the camps here take service and hospitality to a completely different level from anything else in the country. I’d focus on Faru Faru if you are looking for a good tented camp or Sasakwa for sheer opulence (at a serious price tag!). There is a slight risk that the herds will not be in this area of the park in April but from May onwards it’s a great option.
