"Tom's Little Hide offers the ultimate exclusive-use family getaway in Hwange that comes with its own private guide and vehicle. The guiding is renowned for its high quality, while the family focus makes this the obvious choice for any family looking to spend time together in their own private space without worrying about disturbing other guests in camp."

OVERVIEW:

Tom’s Little Hide is a classic safari house situated on the eastern boundary of Hwange National Park, within an area of 5 sq. km. Tom’s is booked exclusively for use by a group, ideally six adults and up to four children though it is possible for eight adults to stay here. The house has an authentic African style, using plenty of wood for fences and beams. The communal areas consist of indoor and outdoor seating and dining areas, including a dining room with a long table and lounge furniture on the deck. There is also a plunge pool in the shade of trees – the perfect place to cool off in between safari activities!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is just over three hours’ drive from Victoria Falls airport. Guests may self-drive for the full distance or travel with a representative for the last part of the trip, from Hwange Main Camp, viewing game on the way! Light aircraft flights are available too.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TOM'S LITTLE HIDE:

There are three bedrooms at Tom’s, all with superb views out to a nearby waterhole. These too have an authentic style, including vibrantly patterned soft furnishings and some fascinating wall masks! All rooms are designed to keep out the mosquitoes, while overhead fans ensure comfortable temperatures. The en-suite facilities consist of flush toilet, twin washbasins, bath, indoor and outdoor showers, and even a dressing table. Rooms 1 and 2 are doubles that can also accommodate one child each on a good-size single bed, while Room 3 is more of a tent set-up and the best option for a family of two adults and two children as it has inter-leading rooms. If necessary, a further room can be added by incorporating a tent from neighboring camp The Hide.

ACTIVITIES AT TOM'S LITTLE HIDE:

Activities from Tom’s benefit from the house’s own guide and vehicle.

  • Game drives are available during the morning and afternoon – and also at night-time!
  • This area of Hwange National Park is truly choc-full of wildlife, such as all Big Five animals (though please note it is very rare to see rhino) in addition to zebra, giraffe, gemsbok, brown hyena, spotted hyena, wild dog plus hippo and crocodile in the large dams here. Nocturnal animals include leopard, bushpig, genet and civet.
  • Bush walks are equally thrilling, providing opportunities to get to know the area really well and to experience some very close encounters!
  • Guests can also observe and photograph game from hides positioned near the park’s busy waterholes. And it is not just about the animals, of course – with over 400 species recorded to date, the birdlife is spectacular! Keen birders relish sightings of hornbill, heron and orioles.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
