"Nyamatusi is one of the newest and most luxurious camps in the park itself. With beautiful rooms, private plunge pools and incredible service, it is perfect for those looking to stay away from the adventure that Mana is normally known for."

OVERVIEW:

Nyamatusi Camp is owned and operated by African Bush Camps, an owner-run company that prides itself on authentic safaris within some of Africa’s wildest parks and reserves. Within Zimbabwe, Bush Camps also runs the impressive Somalisa properties, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge, and Kanga Camp. The accommodation will be booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all game activities, national parks fees, transfers between the camp and the local airstrip, and a laundry service. Children aged 7–11 years will incur 50 per cent of the adult rate. It’ll be possible to book the camp exclusively for a minimum of 12 persons, and it’ll be open from 1st April to 30th November every year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp will be accessed via road transfer from Mana Pools’ airstrip. It’ll be set up on the banks of the Zambezi river, in the remote eastern region of the national park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NYAMATUSI CAMP:

Guest accommodation will consist of six tented suites, all described as offering uninterrupted views over the mighty Zambezi to the escarpment beyond. The artist’s impression of one suite shows a canvas tent mounted on a wooden deck. Inside, the suite appears to have two levels. On the lower level, there’s a seating area, while the upper level contains a double bed – we imagine twin beds will also be available. The bedroom has mosquito nets too, as well as bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and storage furniture. Additional amenities will include air conditioning, a mini-bar, a tea-and-coffee station, and a safe. The en-suite facilities are positioned behind the bedroom, and they’ll most likely comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and shower. African Bush Camps informs us that there’ll be an outdoor shower too! Dressing gowns will be supplied. And each deck will boast a private plunge pool.

The artist’s impression of Nyamatusi’s communal lodge reveals a two-story timber-and-thatch structure. Perusing this, we note comfortable lounge and bar areas on both levels, and dining spaces on the ground floor. Furnishings appear fairly modern, and the palette is decidedly neutral. The lighting is elegant, and a few artifacts add a lot of interest to the design. Each level has a viewing deck – on the lower level this is set with a couple of chairs and a sofa, and it’ll be a great spot for watching wildlife! And guests will access the fire-pit area from the lower deck, descending a couple of steps to an almost full ring of cushioned seating around the campfire. This will be the perfect place to enjoy pre-dinner drinks and swap stories of your day on safari! We anticipate that, in common with other Bush Camps properties, Nyamatusi’s service standards will be impeccable and its food and drink will be exceptionally good.

ACTIVITIES AT NYAMATUSI CAMP:

The camp will offer an exciting range of activities.

  • Expertly guided game drives will take place within the Nyamatusi Wilderness Concession, ensuring sightings of a real wealth of wildlife! Mana Pools is made up of numerous water sources, in addition to river banks, sandbanks, islets, and forests. Four of the Big Five are in residence – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. The smaller carnivore count includes cheetah, hyena, and occasional wild dog, while among the herbivores you can expect to see are zebra, warthog, waterbuck, eland, impala, monkey, and baboon.
  • The rivers, streams, and pools are very popular with hippopotamus and crocodile, and you’ll be able to observe these species particularly closely during canoe trips from camp.
  • Walking safaris will also present great opportunities for scrutiny of wildlife, not least the concession’s plants, insects, and hundreds of types of birds! This activity will have a minimum age requirement of 16 years, but younger safarists will be invited to join a guide on nature walks around the campsite.
  • Catch-and-release fishing will be possible too. For further information about staying at Nyamatusi Camp, please contact a member of our team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
