"Offering the best value in Hwange, this little camp sits on the edge of Hwange National Park. It's positioned in its own private concession, one that's family-friendly due to the fenced borders. The location yields a flexible approach to activities, with access to both the park itself and the concession, which is frequently visited by the Presidential Elephant Herd."

OVERVIEW:

Ivory Lodge, together with neighboring Khulu Lodge and Camp Amalinda (Matobo Hills), is owned and operated by the Amalinda Collection. This company has been designing safaris for over twenty years, aiming to deliver unparalleled adventures! Their stated number-one priority is guest delight – and sure enough, service standards here are first rate.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Ivory Lodge is situated in the Sikumi Forest Reserve, within a private concession between the main road from Victoria Falls to Bulawayo and the eastern region of Hwange National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT IVORY SAFARI LODGE:

The main lodge here consists of an impressive thatch-roofed building with a charming elephant motif. This is home to a comfortable lounge area, a dining area with a selection of tables and chairs, a well-stocked bar and a library, where complimentary WiFi is available. There are superb views from the main lodge, out to the pans and a waterhole that is very popular with elephants! The fire-pit, surrounded by classic camp chairs, is located a short distance in front of the lodge, while the swimming pool enjoys a shady position – perfect for cooling off in the heat!

Guest accommodation at Ivory comprises seven tree houses and two Presidential Elephant Suites. All are raised on stilts and boast amazing views of the waterhole. Each tree house has a double bed or twin beds with mosquito netting, an overhead fan, electric blankets for wintry nights, a seating area, and en-suite facilities of toilet, washbasin and generous-sized shower. The suites have a double bed each, with all the features of the tree houses plus balcony and bathtub.

*Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.*

ACTIVITIES AT IVORY SAFARI LODGE:

Ivory offers a great range of activities.

  • Game drives are available both within the reserve and in Hwange itself, where guests have the thrill of spotting a great diversity of wildlife! Additionally, the park contains over 100 other animal species and nearly 400 species of bird! Back at the reserve, the verdant pans draw numerous zebra, impala and buffalo, with night drives revealing pangolin, porcupine, hyena and mongoose.
  • Walking safaris are equally exciting.
  • The lodge also organizes trips to the local village, Dete, and visits to the Painted Dog Research Center nearby. This is a great opportunity for guests to learn about endeavors to conserve these rare canines – including anti-poaching efforts, rehabilitation and careful monitoring.
  • Finally, the lodge itself has a brilliant hide, close to the waterhole.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
