"This lodge’s location is difficult to beat. Located within walking distance of Victoria Falls, it is perfect for travels looking for comfortable and affordable accommodation – and it’s so close to the Falls, too. We really rate this lodge."

OVERVIEW:

Ilala has a lot to recommend it – not just a fabulous location, but great guest facilities all round, an excellent assortment of activities, and possibly the best food in the Falls! Fillet of warthog, anyone?

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is the closest accommodation to Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side, just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel’s entrance gate to the entrance of the national park!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ILALA LODGE:

The communal building is colonial in style and decorated with interesting prints, antiques and curios. It houses a very comfortable lounge with plenty of seating and complimentary Wi-Fi. The Palm restaurant offers an elegant ambiance and a tasteful à la carte menu – and guests may dine indoors or al fresco. The other restaurant is Kubika, which serves local delicacies such as kudu steak and crocodile risotto! The hotel’s cocktail bar is situated next to the swimming pool and provides snacks all day.

Ilala’s guest accommodation comprises 34 rooms, within a two-story structure. Rooms on the lower floor have double French doors to access the lodge’s well-maintained gardens, while upper-floor rooms have a balcony. There are three options of room configuration – standard twin, standard double (king size) and deluxe suite (king-size bed plus extra single). All are fully air conditioned and include satellite television, tea- and coffee-making facilities, safe, hairdryer, and en-suite bathroom with separate shower. From most of the rooms, it is possible to see the spray of the Falls!

**For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a Standard or Deluxe room for safety reasons relating to balconies. If you stay here with us, please ensure this is what you are given. Also, please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in!**

ACTIVITIES AT ILALA LODGE:

Ilala has its own Activities Desk, to help guests make the most of their stay here. Staff are happy to arrange an amazing assortment of things to do in the area.

  • Game drives take place on a private estate. Two types of river cruise are available – a standard cruise with drinks and snacks along the Upper Zambezi and a luxury cruise (breakfast, lunch or sunset) on board the Ra-Ikane, the vessel built to replace Dr Livingstone’s own Ma-Robert.
  • The luxury cruises feature traditional dancers and both options offer the opportunity to view wildlife – hippo, crocodile, elephant, and many more!
  • It is also possible to take tours of the Falls, visit the local crocodile farm, fly over the Falls in a helicopter, and get stuck into all sorts of sports around the Falls – bungee jumping, white water rafting, canoeing. You will not get bored here!

*Big game often wanders along the banks of the Zambezi River and even right into Victoria Falls Town itself. So if you are at your hotel, walking into town, or sightseeing, always be cautious of big game - keep your distance and always move away from it if you see it.
