"A phenomenal little bush camp that offers excellent value for money. What sets Hwange Bush Camp aside from other camps in the area is the quality of the guiding – it is beyond incredible. Home to some of the best guides in Africa."

OVERVIEW:

Hwange Bush Camp is privately owned and run. It’s a semi-permanent camp, taken down every November and put up again in readiness for the beginning of May. Occupying a remote location, it’s able to offer superb safari experiences! The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and a laundry service.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is situated in the remote northern area of Hwange, a part of the park characterized by sprawling savanna, hilly countryside, and a wealth of water sources. It can be accessed via 3 hours’ road transfer from Victoria Falls, or 30 minutes’ flight from Vic Falls to the Sinamatella Camp airstrip followed by approximately an hour’s drive.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT HWANGE BUSH CAMP:

Guest accommodation consists of six tents, positioned in the cool shade of trees. Each is Meru in style – an outer layer of canvas extends over the inner layer to form a private veranda. Set with a couple of chairs and a small table, the veranda is a great spot for relaxing between activities and watching the wildlife wander by! Inside every tent, there’s a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, overhead lighting, and a standing fan. The en-suite facilities are accessed through a canvas partition at the back of the tent. They comprise flush toilet, washbasin with mirror over, and classic bucket shower!

Hwange Bush Camp’s communal lounge tent and dining tent are set up at roughly the center of the site. Each is open on at least two sides, so you can enjoy the views while socializing and tucking in to snacks and meals. In the lounge tent, there’s a variety of comfortable seating, a few occasional tables, and an old explorer’s chest for a rustic vibe! A few patterned cushions and hanging fabrics bring plenty of color into the space. The dining tent usually contains one long table flanked by upright chairs, where everyone eats together. The camp offers al fresco dining too – a buffet breakfast is often consumed around the fire-pit, a short distance from the communal tents. Light lunches are provided after the morning drive or walk, and there’s always a filling three-course dinner!

ACTIVITIES AT HWANGE BUSH CAMP:

The camp offers guided game drives, walks, stargazing, and fly camping trips.

  • Drives and walks are available during early morning and late afternoon. The guides – currently renowned Zim-pros Dave Carson and Spike Williamson – take a flexible approach, so you might start out on a drive and hop off the vehicle after an hour or so to track wildlife on foot. It isn’t uncommon also to spend a lot of time at waterholes, where big game and smaller species cluster. Highlights here include: lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo, as well as cheetah, hyena, jackal, giraffe, waterbuck, warthog, baboon, and over 400 species of birds!
  • Come evening, you can enjoy a little stargazing, as Dave and Spike point out constellations and tell a few stories around the campfire. And adventurous guests might like to fit in a little fly camping – presently a 5-day excursion is available.
  • For more information on fly camping trips and anything else to do with Hwange Bush Camp, just contact a member of the YZ team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
