OVERVIEW:

All in all, this is an excellent option for travelers to Kariba/Matusadona, a camp that combines authenticity and luxury to great effect. Highly recommended by YZ! The high standards of guiding from Changa do much to recommend this camp to guests. However, service at camp is pretty special too – the staff are friendly, keen to assist and very well organized yet relaxed at the same time! Whether you come here for an adventure, for a retreat, or a bit of both, they are well able to accommodate your needs. Food and drink are really first rate – dining is generally a communal affair, but private tables may be set up too.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Boasting nearly 4km of lakeshore frontage, Change Safari Camp is located in a remote and secluded part of Matusadona National Park in the heart of Lake Kariba

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CHANGA SAFARI CAMP:

The main areas of camp are located among trees. They are made of wood and thatch, merging seamlessly into the natural setting. There are two comfortable lounges – one indoor, one outdoor – in addition to a dining room, library and separate bar. The interiors mix cane, leather and linen to classy yet comfortable effect. Both lounges lead on to a split-level deck with amazing views out to the lake. The lower and upper levels are connected via a curved stairway – and at the foot of the stairs is the plunge pool surrounded by sunloungers in addition to the camp’s fire-pit and wonderful white-sand beach.

The guest accommodation at Changa comprises six double tents and two family tents. These are joined to the main areas by wooden walkways that become concrete paths closer to the tents, which are themselves mounted on concrete. All accommodation benefits from cool breezes wafting off the lake and flowing through mesh windows – and fans are available during the hotter months. Inside, the style is East Africa meets colonial. The en-suite facilities consist of flush toilet, two washbasins, indoor and outdoor showers, and bathtub. All tents have a private veranda, for guests to enjoy views of the lake.

*Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in*

ACTIVITIES AT CHANGA SAFARI CAMP:

Due to its brilliant location, on the shores of Lake Kariba within a private concession in the national park, Changa is well placed to offer great boat trips, game drives and walking safaris.

  • This region contains impressive populations of buffalo, elephant and lion, plus an exciting assortment of antelope, plenty of other big cats, hippo, crocodile, and elusive black rhino. While tracking game, a professional guide may lead you along the shorelines or up into the park’s majestic mountains.
  • Keen birdwatchers are in their element here, as there are over 350 species of bird!
  • The lake is world-renowned as a fishing destination – guests have the option of assistance from a guide to help catch the famous tiger fish or bream for dinner. Such trips include taking in the sunset, while enjoying a sundowner. Bliss!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
