This is a super-simple bushcamp, but it offers excellent hosting and guiding! It’s a real safari experience for people who love to be out in the wild bush.
Ntemwa-Busanga is owned and run by J&M, aka Jeffery & McKeith Safaris. The company is operated by Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith, who lived and worked in Kafue for several years before establishing their own camps here. Presently the J&M portfolio contains two other properties – Liuwa and YZ favourite Musekese. Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, vehicle safaris, and a laundry service. The camp is open from 1st July to 31st October every year.
Access & location:
The camp can be accessed via up to 4 hours’ game drive transfer from Lufupa Airstrip, which is also used for Musekese. Ntemwa-Busanga is situated in the far south of the Busanga Plains, within Kafue National Park.
Accommodation & facilities at Ntemwa-Busanga:
There are four guest tents. Each is mounted on a stone platform and has a few steps up to the entrance. The tents are Meru style – an exterior layer of canvas extends over the inner structure to create a shady private veranda at the front. This veranda contains a couple of safari chairs and a small table, and it’s a great spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Inside the tent, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables for solar lighting, a hanging rail, and a small shelf for your luggage. Other items on both bedside tables include mosquito spray, a whistle, and a reusable water bottle. The en-suite open-air washroom is positioned at the back of the tent, and it contains a flush toilet, a jug-and-basin, and a classic bucket shower! Hot water is provided every morning and on request at other times.
The camp has a comfortable mess tent, an open-sided structure affording amazing vistas over the area. In here, there’s a lounge featuring leather sofas and chairs, a coffee table made out of a tree trunk, a vibrantly patterned rug or two, and a few safari chairs at the front. Behind the mess tent, a flight of steps leads up to the dining area, where guests tuck in to delicious food and drink while admiring the views! Al fresco dining is available also. And as you’d expect from an authentic safari camp like this, there’s a welcoming campfire where guests gather to share their safari stories.
Activities at Ntemwa-Busanga:
Ntemwa-Busanga is all about vehicle safaris!
Expertly guided game drives- The camp is able to access vast swathes of the Busanga Plains as far as the southern treelines, thanks to an impressive network of roads through the area. Wildlife highlights include a dominant lion pride known as the ‘Papyrus Pride’ due to its location in the wetter plains in the northern region. There are leopards too, as well as huge herds of another member of the Big Five – buffalo! Other herbivores in residence include wildebeest, zebra, roan and sable antelopes, red lechwe, oribi, and even the elusive reedbuck. Cheetah and wild dog are spotted less frequently, usually along the treelines.
Night drives- Ntemwa-Busanga’s vehicles are equipped with both spotlights and red filters, increasing opportunities for safarists to view some of the nocturnal wildlife! You can look out for leopard, genet, porcupine, and the charming bush baby.
