"This camp is my safari heaven – I love it! One of only two camps in the North Luangwa, Mwaleshi offers an exceptional standard of guiding and the special experience of walking through the unspoiled bush of the North Luangwa."

OVERVIEW:

Run by the fantastic Remote Africa, Mwaleshi Camp is a family-run bush camp that is located in the walking-only zone of North Luangwa. It is one of Africa’s finest walking camps, home to some of the best guiding you will find on the continent.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Mwaleshi Camp is located in North Luangwa National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MWALESHI CAMP:

Mwaleshi is certainly a no-frills, rustic camp, but it is also an undeniably high-quality safari outfit. The camp itself has only four reed-and-thatch chalets, each of which is built new for the start of every season. These are basic yet lovely rooms that fit in with the character and adventurous nature of this wild National Park.

ACTIVITIES AT MWALESHI CAMP:

  • Apart from the drive from the camp’s airstrip, walking safari is the only activity up here. Guests have to expect up to six hours of walking per day, in an area that is well known for big game. Close encounters with buffalo, lion and elephant are possible.
  • However, guests need to be patient when traveling here. As Mwaleshi is a walking camp, experiencing and being at one with nature is the focus – big game is never guaranteed in a camp like this. However, we had what can only really be described as the perfect walking experience on our last trip to Mwaleshi – lion on every walk and wild dog in the river.
  • Mwaleshi is at its peak from July through to October, with temperatures getting progressively hotter the later you travel.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
