Kafunta River Lodge is situated on the edge of South Luangwa and is open from April to early January.

OVERVIEW:
Adjacent to the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park, Kafunta River Lodge is a friendly and scenic lodge, which overlooks a game-rich floodplain. This camp combines extremely well with its sister lodge, Kafunta Island Bush Camp, which specialises in walking activities.

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Kafunta River Lodge is located just outside of the South Luangwa National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The lodge contains eight spacious chalets. All are raised on wooden platforms and have thatch roofs. If you are looking for a bit more privacy, there are two luxury chalets featuring an upstairs viewing deck with amazing views of the flood plains. All chalets and suites have a private veranda offering superb vistas of these plains.

The central main area is the large lounge and dining space, which is also housed under thatch to give it a traditional African bush-lodge feel. This leads onto the spacious deck area overlooking a floodlit watering hole. Next to the bar is a swimming pool and the only natural hot tub in the Luangwa Valley. The water is heated to a constant temperature of 37 degrees, so relaxing here is the perfect end to your day in the cooler months. Every evening the campfire is lit and guests enjoy meeting before dinner to share their safari stories and listen to the sounds of the bush.

ACTIVITIES:
Kafunta River Lodge offers morning and afternoon game drives as standard, but you can request a walking safari too. Guests are transported into the National Park on a pontoon for game activities. Finally, the lodge has a bush spa, which offers a variety of massages in the little hut that is open towards the plains.

There is a hide located underneath the deck and this offers great photography opportunities. The main viewing deck is the ideal place to enjoy a private lunch in the treetops – or there is also a deck positioned among the trees, to give you a bird’s-eye view.
