"This is a remote and adventurous little walking-only camp, with bucket showers and unique rooms raised on platforms on the river bank. If you are looking for a remote walking safari, this is the camp for you."

OVERVIEW:

This really is a great-value option for a bush camp in South Luangwa, especially when it is combined with the affordable sister property, Kafunta River Lodge, which is situated in the central Mfuwe area.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Island Bush Camp is located in the remote southern area of South Luangwa.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ISLAND BUSH CAMP:

This intimate bush camp has just five chalets. All are built on stilts and are open-fronted. The height and lack of front wall ensures that guests enjoy magnificent views from the chalets. The camp retains the rustic feel with open-air bathrooms featuring hot bucket showers that are filled once per day. There is no electric power here, so paraffin lights are used in the evenings.

The focal point of camp is the lounge area. This has comfortable chairs and is the perfect place to catch up and unwind after game drives. Meals are simple but perfectly cooked on the wood-burning stove. Dinner is always taken under the stars, by candlelight.

ACTIVITIES AT ISLAND BUSH CAMP:

  • Vehicles are used to transport guests to the lodge, and then all activities are walking.
  • In the evening, once you have completed your afternoon walk, a driver will meet the guide and you will be driven back to the lodge to look out for nocturnal wildlife.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
