OVERVIEW:
Flatdogs offers amazingly good value. The Luangwa is a fabulous safari destination, however it is rather remote which makes it expensive for companies to operate here. As a result, the lodges and camps are often prohibitively expensive. Flatdogs is an excellent alternative for those looking for a more economical trip.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Flatdogs Camp is located just outside the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia's Eastern Province. The wildlife here is very good and the guides extremely knowledgeable.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT FLATDOGS CAMP:
The camp sits on the banks of the Luangwa River with sweeping views across to the lagoon system. It offers a wide range of accommodation, including chalet rooms and ensuite tents, as well as the unique Jackalberry Tree House, which is built around 3 ebony trees and the Crocodile Nest, perfect for groups or families. which is built around 3 ebony trees and the Crocodile Nest for groups and families Guests share a central area with a bar, restaurant and pool area where guests can relax between game drives.
The three chalets are spacious and made of stone with thatch roofs to help guests keep cool. They consist of two floors, each with a bedroom and a simple bathroom that can be booked independently. There is also a family chalet with three bedrooms for families or small groups.
All twelve of the ensuite tents have open-air bathrooms with a hot shower and flushing toilet. However, the luxury tents are slightly larger and have the best views by the river, while the six standards tents are dotted around the bush.
*Please be aware that the Jackalbery Treehouse and the Family Chalet are not recommended for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.*
