Uganda in September

September

September sees the return of the rains, usually towards the end of the month and accompanied by lots of tropical butterflies – until then, safari activities including treks are excellent.

What’s the weather going to be like in Uganda in September?

  • It’s almost entirely dry all month, but there is some rainfall
  • September is the last month of the dry season, with short rains turning up towards the end
  • Temperatures are consistently warm
  • YZ recommends bringing your waterproofs!

What are the highlights of visiting Uganda in September?

  • September is exceptionally good for game drives and gorilla treks
  • Wildlife is easier to spot, as there is less vegetation during the dry season and animals continue to congregate around the waterholes
  • Tropical butterflies become more active with the arrival of the rains
  • Kampala hosts the B-Global Indigenous Hip Hop Festival
  • There are still plenty of opportunities for wildlife photography.

Any lowlights?

  • It’s a peak month so availability is still low
  • Prices are high
  • Rainfall is likely towards the end of the month
  • Depending on the amount of rain, gorilla treks can be wet and muddy
  • Kibale Forest has bad weather in September, so this is not the best time to visit this national park
  • Mosquitoes are scares, except in areas like Bwindi and Kibale.
