Uganda in July

July

A dry season month, July is one of the best times for wildlife viewing and gorilla treks, and, in the north of the country, for observing flocks of migrant birds.

What’s the weather going to be like in Uganda in July?

  • Days are consistently warm and sunny, with little rainfall
  • It’s the middle of the long dry season, but Uganda has a tropical climate so there’s still a small chance of rain
  • Temperatures are high
  • YZ recommends packing long lightweight trousers for gorilla tracking and warm layers for the cooler mornings and evenings.

What are the highlights of visiting Uganda in July?

  • All parks are accessible and all activities are possible during the dry season
  • Even in peak season, it’s rare that parks in Uganda feel busy or overcrowded
  • It’s an ideal time for game viewing, as wildlife is concentrated around the waterholes and there’s less foliage to block your view
  • This is one of the best and easiest months to go trekking for gorillas and chimpanzees, as the ground is dry
  • July is the optimum month to see tree-climbing lions
  • In the north of Uganda, it’s still wet season and there are over 1,000 bird species flying about
  • Wildlife around waterholes is a superb subject for keen photographers this month
  • Mosquito numbers start to decline.

Any lowlights?

  • There’s limited availability of properties during the dry season, so it’s essential to book well in advance
  • Peak season makes for higher property prices
  • Gorilla permits need to be booked months before your trip
  • Temperatures can be hot for trekking.
