Within the national park, there are 15 gorilla groups that can be viewed. Because all of these groups are located in different areas of Bwindi National Park, it can be difficult to find out which area is best suited to you.
- Buhoma is by far the most frequented by tourists; however, treks that depart from Buhoma reliably deliver gorilla sightings making it a great choice for first-time travelers.
- The Nkuringo area is ideal for those looking to get off-the-beaten-track, as this area can be seen as the 'hidden gem' of Bwindi and still offers reliable sightings.
- Other areas to mention are Ruhiji, which is more for travelers on a budget as accommodation here takes the form of campsites and low-end lodges.
- Finally, Rushaga is for those who want to take part in the habituation experience.

Other activities available include guided walks and birding. You can go monkey watching too, as the park contains black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkey, vervet monkey, and L’Hoest’s monkey, which has a striking white beard. There are also elephants, common chimpanzees, side-striped jackal, golden cat, civet, giant forest hog, and some small antelopes. And there are over 350 types of bird!
