OVERVIEW:
Mutanda Lake Resort is situated on a peninsula in the spectacular Lake Mutanda, between the town of Kisoro and the national parks of Mgahinga and Bwindi. The property boasts amazing views over the lake as far as the Virunga Mountains! It is perfect for keen gorilla trackers who would like to enjoy a great mix of activities, all from a comfortable base!

ACCESS & LOCATION:
The property is usually accessed via road transfer from Kisoro, a scenic route of approximately 45 minutes. It is a couple of hours’ drive from Kabale, and three-and-a-half hours by road from Kigali in Rwanda.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
Mutanda offers accommodation to suit most types of traveller, as it provides single, double, twin, triple, and family rooms.

The location of the resort, among trees overlooking the lake, is breathtakingly beautiful! The communal lodge has the look of a Swiss chalet, but the interiors have a distinctly African feel. Both the restaurant and the bar have a homely ambience, with lovely views across the water. There is also a deck, where you can get even closer to the scenery! In total, the resort’s grounds cover almost 1,500 hectares, so there is plenty of room for relaxing in between activities.

Each of the 13 guest cottages has superb views too! These are positioned on wooden platforms, offering panoramic vistas from a private veranda. You can opt for a single, double, twin, triple, or family room. All beds are very comfy, and additional features include bedside tables and lighting, ample storage space, mosquito nets, and, through an archway, an en-suite bathroom. The décor throughout incorporates African artefacts, such as sculptures and coloured bowls.

ACTIVITIES:
The main activity available from Mutanda Lake Resort is tracking gorillas! Guests travel to Bwindi Impenetrable N.P., just an hour’s drive away, to begin the adventure. Presently the park occupies 321 square kilometres of hills cloaked in dense forest and intersected by a series of streams. The area is home to 320 mountain gorillas, including 11 habituated groups that can be tracked by visitors. The experience of observing the gorillas in their territory is very memorable indeed!

Tracking golden monkeys, in Mgahinga N.P., is just as enthralling, and the resort offers a wide range of other activities. You can take boat trips to the islands of Kyangushu and Mutanda, to meet local villagers and to enjoy a bit of walking. For more serious hikers, there is the Batwa trail through mountain woodland to the Garama Cave, a landmark steeped in history. You can also hike in Sabinyo Gorge and, if you are feeling particularly energetic, climb mounts Sabinyo and Muhavura!
