“Hidden away from the crowds in the wonderful Lamai Wedge, Alex’s Lamai Camp is my favorite option for any Serengeti mobile from July to November. Private safaris and the sheer quality of the guides here take safari to the next level.”

OVERVIEW:

Serian’s Serengeti Lamai is a remote mobile camp in the far north of Serengeti National Park, thrillingly close to the famous Mara River, bringing you all the drama of the Great Migration river crossings! This setting is ideal, boasting impressive quantities of wildlife, among groves of fig trees, rocky hillsides, and seemingly endless plains. As the camp is set back from the river, guests escape the crowds and enjoy privacy and tranquillity while remaining excitingly close to the heart of the action. Serengeti Lamai is part of Serian, a collection of migration camps that was set up by Alex Walker, one of the best guides in East Africa. As such, you can expect top-notch guiding with the bonus of guaranteed private game drive vehicles. Rates at Serian’s Serengeti Lamai are full board and include meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, walking safaris, exclusive use of a 4WD vehicle and private guide, and laundry services.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Serian’s Serengeti Lamai is located in the Lamai Wedge in the very north of Serengeti National Park, only 1 kilometre from the Mara River Crossing Point 4. This is the heart of the Great Migration action! To get here, the preferred airstrip is Lamai.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SERIAN'S SERENGETI MOBILE LAMAI:

Accommodation at Serian’s Serengeti Lamai consists of eight spacious guest tents and two family suites, all on teak wood decks nestled under acacia trees for some pleasant cooling shade. Each has a veranda, separated from the tent by a zip-up panel, where guests can admire the surrounding wildlife and take in amazing views! Inside, you’ll find a large wrought-iron bed, bedside tables with lamps and drinking water, a writing desk and chair, and storage space for clothes and other belongings. The décor is neutral, with a few splashes of color provided by patterned cushions and Moroccan rugs. The en-suite facilities are at the back of each tent – they comprise a flush toilet, a washstand with a basin and a mirror, and a plumbed shower. There are also two family suites composed of two tents interconnected by a shared living space, ideal for those traveling with children. The accommodation at Serian’s Serengeti Lamai feels simple, comfortable, and authentic – a winning combination!

There are two open-sided mess tents at Serian’s Serengeti Lamai, both with gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape. The lounge space is ideal for curling up on a comfy sofa with one of the camp’s selection of books, or you might like to try the traditional game of bao, well loved in Tanzania. In the dining area, there’s a large communal table where guests are seated on director’s chairs and served delicious home-cooked meals, sometimes hosted by Alex Walker himself. Further seating is arranged just outside the tent, and the fire-pit offers the perfect place for sinking a sundowner and sharing your safari stories. A 24-hour generator provides electricity, but there is no Wi-Fi here, as guests are encouraged to disconnect completely!

ACTIVITIES AT SERIAN'S SERENGETI MOBILE LAMAI:

Activities from Serian’s Serengeti Lamai aim to bring you the best of the region’s wildlife – and on a truly spectacular scale:

  • Game drives

    - Every group of guests at Serian properties has exclusive use of an open-top safari vehicle plus spotter and guide – the same team of two is with you throughout your stay, ensuring that you see the best of the Serengeti at your own pace. The plains around the camp are teeming with wildlife – not only the herbivores, but also predators such as lion and cheetah. Elephant are also in residence, and it is not uncommon to see all Big Five species in a single day! Serian’s Serengeti Lamai is ideally placed for the annual Great Migration, where the experience of watching huge herds thrashing their way across the river is truly breathtaking, unlike anything else in the world. With crocs lying in wait for their prey, the scenes are sometimes pretty gripping, too!
  • Walking safaris

    - Serian’s Serengeti Lamai’s walking safaris are the perfect way to explore all the small details of the ecosystem that you might miss while in a game drive vehicle. Whether you’re interested in dung beetles, butterflies, plant life, or birds of all colors and sizes, this is your chance to meander through nature crowd-free, stopping to marvel at all the elements.
  • Fly camping

    - If you are feeling particularly adventurous, fly camping amongst the elements adds a whole other dimension to the safari experience! Areas well worth exploring include the Lamai Wedge, where scenic open plains border the Maasai Mara, and the rocky plains of the Wogakuria Kopjes, where lucky spectators might catch sight of the occasional leopard. We recommend a stay of at least four nights, especially if you are planning to fit in some fly camping.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Our stay here was delayed by a freak rain/wind storm, but they made alternate arrangements at a nearby camp for us and we didn't miss a beat with game drives, food and superb service.

Hard to put into words how outstanding our experience was at this place! The location simply beautiful, the tent wonderful, the food delicious. But what makes this camp are the people and what they stand for. We had the luck and honor to have Alex Walker in camp during our stay which led to some memorable conversations. Everybody always had a smile on their faces and was so willing to share stories about their country and families, you just felt like a part of a great community. Having a safari vehicle to ourselves was such a bonus and gave us exactly the experience we were looking for. Our guide Benedict and tracker were beyond expectations! We quickly learned to simply trust them and they gave us a lifetime of memories to cherish. Not only did they find so many animals and positioned the car always in the perfect way for pictures but they shared a wealth of information and inside into each one of the animals we encountered. This is the stuff dreams are made of! And we will be back, not a doubt in our mind!

This camp was the best! The guides were superb, well educated and very helpful. The open vehicles added to the unobstructed viewing of the animals. The walking safari was another great experience. Alex Walker and his staff set the tone for an incredible 4 night stay.

Very comfortable and gracious camp in the Serengetti. Accommodations were spacious and nicely appointed without frills. Food and hospitality were outstanding, with Alex Walker in camp which made it that much more interesting. Enjoyed the other guests. Our guides Benedict and Flaxson, along with the Serengeti and the game were the highlights. One of the most serene and enchanting places on earth! Alex Walker's Serian Lamai Mobile Camp made it a truly authentic and unforgettable experience. Loved breakfast in the bush. The camp is situated on the less traveled side of the Mara River, which turned out to be a great decision and enhanced the experience. We saw two Wildebeest and one elephant crossing, Cheetahs and their cubs, many lions from cubs to teenagers to adults, and could get enough of the hippos, zebras, antelopes, giraffes, birds and more. Can't wait to go back.
