"This camp offers one of the most genuine and immersive experiences in the Serengeti - walking through undisturbed parts of this iconic park is truly special. A superb, bespoke choice for families and groups."

OVERVIEW:

Wayo Trekking Fly Camp is owned and operated by Wayo Safaris. This company specializes in authentic safaris within some of the remotest regions of Tanzania! The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We recommend a stay of at least three nights, to make the most of the experience.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via road transfer from the local airstrip. Each location has been specially selected for its off-the-beaten-track feel – you’re really out in the wilderness here!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WAYO TREKKING FLY CAMP:

Wayo Trekking Fly Camp adjusts its number of tents to fit the size of a group. All tents measure 3 by 3 meters. Depending on location and routes, sometimes you’ll sleep on a bed, while at other times you’ll have a mattress only. Every tent has a gutter system in place, to collect rainwater for showers. The showers themselves are classic bucket style! They’re set up in separate enclosures, together with shallow-pit latrines in which waste is turned into compost. The camp prides itself on being very green.

A communal tent is set up to accommodate the lounge and dining areas. It’s a simple arrangement, but there’s a friendly atmosphere and the food is tasty and filling! Meals are often enjoyed around the campfire too, which is really the heart of camp at every location – guests gather each night to talk about their safari day.

ACTIVITIES AT WAYO TREKKING FLY CAMP:

Walks, walks, and more walks! As a specialist walking camp, Wayo brings you the best of the Serengeti on foot.

  • A walk can last from 2 to 6 days, and the duration of a trek ranges from 4 to 14 days.
  • Walks involve approximately 10 kilometers per day, and treks can add up to 20km. Sometimes, the terrain is uneven and/or rocky.
  • You’ll start out from camp at about 6:30 in the morning, following a light breakfast. In the company of a highly knowledgeable and experienced guide, you’ll move stealthily through the Serengeti’s northern, central, or southern region, depending on the time of your visit.
  • Opportunities abound to track the huge herds of the Great Migration, as well as many other species of wildlife.
  • In the south (Simiu or Olabyee Rhino Zone), you’ll observe the hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles tucking in to the sweet short grasses of the plains, with calving taking place through two to three weeks of February.
  • Come April, the herds start to enter the Central Serengeti (Kilimafetha) for their rutting season, a raucous time to be in the park!
  • And lastly, they advance into the north (Nyamalumbwa Rhino Zone) in their search for grass.
  • Depending on your location, you can look out for lots of big cats, humungous herbivores including rhino, elephant, and buffalo, and impressive concentrations of smaller mammals.
  • Keen birders can scan the skies, trees, and water sources for hundreds of types of feathery friend!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
