"This lodge has a great location, one of the very best... but Ruaha is known for small camps that are great value for money. Competition for your business is fierce here and mainly due to its size we've always believed there are better options."

While Ruaha River Lodge is a good property for someone who is looking for an affordable stay in Ruaha, it is not one of our favorites as the number of bedrooms makes it a relatively large property. If you are seeking a reasonably-priced option, we'd suggest Mdonya Old River Lodge first.

The lodge is positioned on the Great Ruaha River, in an area with a great concentration of game. Animals are regularly seen in the early morning and afternoon, coming down the escarpment in search of water.

The accommodation consists of 24 stone chalets. These stretch along the river bank and have a large veranda at the front. Their huge interiors feature a large bed and a sitting area, while the en-suite bathrooms are located at the back of the property.

There are two dining areas where guests can enjoy their meals or a drink at the bar. The first is located on top of a rock kopje, giving it one of the best views in the park, while the second is located down by the river where guests can enjoy watching animals taking advantage of the water source.

  • Traditional game drives are offered here at Ruaha River Lodge, both in the morning and in the afternoon.
  • Alternatively, guests can head out on full-day drives with a packed lunch to explore deeper into the park.
  • Please be aware though that the size of the lodge can make game driving in one of the remotest parks in Africa not as quiet as it should be.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
