"Despite being located outside the park, Olkeri is a superb little camp that offers incredible value for money. What sets it apart is the quality of the guiding at this camp and its location outside the park provides more flexibility in activities and adds an authentic cultural touch to the experience that camps inside the park can't offer."

OVERVIEW:

Located in the community-owned Randilen Wildlife Management Area, just outside Tarangire National Park, Olkeri Camp is a simple, traditional bush camp with the benefit of facilitating night game drives, walking safaris, and fly camping. Run by Entara, who also have camps in the Serengeti and Lake Eyasi, as well as an eight-room house in Arusha, Olkeri is an excellent base from which to explore Tarangire National Park while being removed from the tourist crowds and build-up of safari vehicles. Rates are full board and include all meals, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages (except champagne and premium wines), limited laundry, and Wi-Fi at the mess tent. Guests can also opt for a game package that includes two shared game drives per day, guided walks, and shared road transfers to and from Randilen Airstrip. The camp is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Olkeri Camp is located in the Randilen Wildlife Management Area in the greater Tarangire area. Randilen Airstrip is a 30-minute drive from Olkeri Camp. Kuro Airstrip is one-and-a-half hours away (Tarangire N.P. entry fees apply).

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT OLKERI CAMP:

Olkeri Camp offers eight understated yet comfortable canvas tents, with verandas overlooking seasonal watercourses. Additionally, two interconnecting units make up a family suite, and all accommodations have en-suite bathrooms with running water and flush toilets. Hot water is provided via solar heaters, and there is 24/7 lighting and charging in the tents and mess area. Wi-Fi is connected at the mess tent only. Triples are available, and a ramp is available on request for those with mobility issues. Style-wise, guests can expect low-key comfort, with plenty of teak wood, wicker furniture, and oversized jute rugs. The tents are spacious, with roll-up canvas windows and a mesh panel entrance that opens up to the veranda and provides airflow. Please note, there is no air conditioning at Olkeri. Tents are equipped with a radio and a flashlight, and the multi-plugs accept all international plug types and USB ports.

There’s a large mess tent for communal use, with indoor/outdoor dining areas overlooking the watering holes, a seating area, a solar charging station, and a fire-pit outside, which provides the ideal place for guests to congregate for sundowners and shared stories. Dining is enjoyed at individual tables, though the camp will gladly set up a communal table if friendships are formed. Close to the mess tent are additional bathroom facilities.
