"A very private, luxury option on the crater rim! Fireplaces and rustic luxury with Faux Fur throws and natural wood finishings keep this crater rim retreat cozy. In contrast to its original sister camp on the rim, it has stretched canvas walls with wooden framed doors, which for a camp in this elevated position is a fantastic idea and solves many of the sounds created by the wind which can be strong here."

OVERVIEW:

Explore the Ngorongoro Crater entirely on your own terms and schedules – this is what Nomad Tanzania’s property Entamanu Private promises. An excellent option for a group or family (with children over the age of five), this exclusive-use only camp is right on the fridge of the crater. Typical of a Nomad property and similar to sister camp Entamanu Ngorongoro, it offers top-quality accommodation, service, and guiding. The camp is made from locally-sourced materials and leaves no trace on the landscape.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The property is accessed via approximately 2 hours 30 minutes’ road transfer from Lake Manyara Airstrip. It has a wonderful location within the Ngorongoro Highlands, boasting views as far as the Serengeti!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ENTAMANU PRIVATE

There are six guest rooms in total, including two that are family ready. All are made from timer, glass and stretched-canvas, and all rooms have impressive crater views. The palette is neutrals and earth tones, with a few accents of color. The standard rooms contain a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and plenty of storage space. The bathrooms are en-suite with hot and cold running water, flushable toilets and double basins. The family rooms have two large bedrooms.
The communal area at Entamanu Private has a lounge and dining area, with comfortable seating around coffee tables, and a large table where everyone will eat together. Again, guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the crater and the Serengeti beyond, especially when relaxing on the shaded verandas.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ENTAMANU PRIVATE:

There will be six guest rooms in total, including two that are described as family ready. All will be housed in structures made out of timber, stretched canvas, and glass. At present, only a tantalizing glimpse into the standard room is available, via a photograph of that option’s en-suite facilities. However, a photo of the family room has been provided by Nomad, and it’s reasonable to assume that the furnishings shown here will be similar. The palette is mostly neutrals and earth tones, with a few splashes of red and warm orange. We reckon each standard room will contain a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and plenty of storage space. We’re told that the en-suite facilities will include a flush toilet, twin washbasins, and shower with hot/cold running water. Each family room will have two bedrooms. And all rooms will have views not only of the crater but also of the Serengeti! Once we have more information, we’ll update this preliminary report.

The communal areas at Entamanu Private should be just as well appointed as the guest rooms. We haven’t seen any images yet, but based on our stays at other Nomad properties we think it likely there’ll be combined lounge and dining areas, with comfortable seating around coffee tables and perhaps a large table where everyone will eat together. There might well be a communal veranda too, which would be perfect for al fresco relaxing and tucking into delicious meals. Again, guests will enjoy breathtaking views of the crater and the Serengeti beyond.

ACTIVITIES AT ENTAMANU PRIVATE:

Entamanu Private offers an exciting range of activities:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - The vast Ngorongoro Crater features sprawling plains, acacia woodlands, and beautiful lakes, and it’s home to a real wealth of wildlife. Among its viewing highlights for safarists are all Big Five species – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Smaller predators in residence include cheetah, hyena, serval, caracal, and golden cat, while the less-hefty herbivore count features wildebeest, zebra, all sorts of antelopes, and hippo. There’s ample birdlife too, not least vibrant flocks of flamingo. Game drives from the property will be available during mornings and afternoons, and guests will also have the opportunity to spend a full day in the crater. Due to Entamanu Private’s location on the crater rim, it offers better access onto the crater floor than other options in the area, making for relatively quiet morning game drives.
  • Highland walks

    - A pleasant change of pace from vehicle safaris, walks in the presence of a knowledgeable and experienced guide are available – and both a Maasai scout and an armed ranger will accompany you too. This activity is fantastic for anyone interested in taking a really close look at the smaller aspects of the Ngorongoro region, for example the plants, insects, and little birdlife.
  • Village visits

    - In the next valley along from Entamanu Private, there’s a Maasai village. Here, the locals live in their huts and graze their herds of cattle. Guests are invited to visit the village, to meet the friendly Maasai and to learn all about their ways of life, including their warrior ceremonies.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
