"Sister camp to Nyikani Camp Central Serengeti, Nyikani Migration Camp is a migrational camp that moves from the northern Serengeti to the south. It is a great camp that caters well to adventurous clients wanting a little more comfort than some simple mobiles offer!"

OVERVIEW:

If you are keen to follow the Great Migration on a budget, look no further than Nyikani Migration Camp! This authentic and comfy camp places you in the middle of the action and is very well combined with a stay at sister camp, Nyikani Camp Central Serengeti. Formerly called Chaka Camp, Yellow Zebra highly recommends this property!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

From December to March, Nyikani Migration Camp’s location is just south of the Serengeti, in the Ndutu region of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The camp relocates to the Northern Serengeti for the period from May to October. Nyikani Migration Camp is often booked in combination with its sister camp, which is based in the Central Serengeti all year round.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NYIKANI MIGRATION CAMP:

The communal areas of Nyikani Migration Camp are housed within two tents. The larger tent is home to living and dining spaces, totaling 64m2. There is plenty of lounge furniture as well as more formal seating around separate dining tables. The décor features plenty of wood and canvas, with colorful fabrics and animal-print cushions. And of course it is possible to move chairs just outside the tent, to bask in the front veranda! There is a smaller restroom tent too, in addition to a small library, a well-stocked bar and a fire pit, the perfect place to sit around a campfire and share stories.

Nyikani Migration Camp's guest accommodation consists of twelve spacious tents, all 32m2 and able to sleep a maximum of two adults and two children, configured as a twin, double, triple, or family option. Each tent boasts electric lighting, power point with universal adaptor, a writing desk, a digital safe, an 8m2 private veranda overlooking the ecosystem of the Serengeti, and indoor and outdoor lounge chairs. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin with running water, and safari-style bucket shower. The tents are spaced approximately 20m apart, ample distance for a bit of privacy!

ACTIVITIES AT NYIKANI MIGRATION CAMP:

  • Activities from Nyikani Migration Camp focus on game drives, following the wildebeest and zebra herds of the Great Migration across the sprawling Serengeti plains.
  • December to March is the best time to see predators among the herds and February is calving season, with about 500,000 wildebeest born this month alone!
  • Due to all these new additions, the months of May and June see absolutely huge herds, readying themselves for the push towards the North and beginning to traverse the Grumeti River.
  • And from July to November, the herds start crossing the Mara River, which is where you see big river crossings with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest trying to dodge crocodiles in the search for food and settling in their new home within the park.
  • Other activities available in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro consist of walking and balloon safaris and in Ndutu Maasai cultural tours and a visit to Olduvai Gorge – just get in touch for more details!
  • The service standards at Nyikani Migration Camp are brilliant. This may be a semi-permanent camp, but there are no half measures in the team’s dedication to ensuring guests feel welcome and comfortable, at all destinations.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
