“A chic and luxury lodge located in the peaceful, far-flung western reaches of the Serengeti. Owned by &Beyond, who are known for their luxury standards and great service.”

OVERVIEW:

&Beyond Grumeti River, an old Serengeti favourite, has been reinvented. This property sits on the crocodile infested Grumeti river, in a quiet area of the Serengeti; a wonderful spot. The migration moves through from April to mid June every year when the camp sees shoulder season rates. Combine it with Crater Lodge and Mnemba for an exceptional trip. Overall, this will be a beautiful tented lodge where guests will enjoy seeing the Serengeti in comfort. Perfect for guests looking for luxury in a quieter area of the Serengeti.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is situated within the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, on the banks of the Grumeti river. It is accessed via flight from Arusha to Grumeti Airstrip, followed by a short road transfer to the lodge (5–10 minutes).

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GRUMETI SERENGETI RIVER LODGE:

There are nine standard suites and one 2-bedroom suite that is perfect for families with children. The accommodation is very spacious, and the style is nostalgic elegance. Each standard suite features an enormous bed and an exquisitely appointed washroom with bathtub and indoor/outdoor showers. From the outside shower, guests have amazing views over the Serengeti! Every unit has a private plunge pool too. And the family suite benefits from a small additional bedroom, ideal for young children.

The communal spaces at Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge include an open-air lounge and dining area, with decks for those gorgeous river views. Kitenge fabrics contribute to the overall air of authenticity, striking against the lodge’s stone walls. The palette is inspired by the colours of Lake Victoria’s fishing communities and the grey tones of the local hippos. Another enticing aspect of the lodge is the interactive kitchen, where guests are invited to work with the chefs, planning the menus for the day ahead. As this is an &Beyond property, you can expect outstanding quality food and drink. Other communal facilities include a fitness centre, a signature shop, and a rim-flow swimming pool!

ACTIVITIES AT GRUMETI SERENGETI RIVER LODGE:

The lodge’s position within the Serengeti’s famous Western Corridor makes for some amazing wildlife sightings! Here’s a list of the activities that are available:

  • Twice-daily game drives

    - Vehicle safaris are available during early mornings and late afternoons, to avoid the midday heat. Among the wildlife highlights in this part of the park are huge herds of plain game, large lion prides, substantial hyena clans, and the black-and-white colobus monkeys that are found nowhere else in the Serengeti. And as the lodge has a remote location, the chances of encountering another vehicle are pretty slim.
  • Great Migration sightings

    - The Western Corridor forms a key part of the Great Migration route. During the period from April to mid-June, the legendary wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles are in this zone for the rutting season. Naturally, all the herbivore herds attract a wealth of predators, not least lion, leopard, and cheetah. If you’re here during June and mid-July, you’re likely to see crossings of the Grumeti river – it’s well worth bringing your camera!
  • Hot air ballooning

    - You’ll need your camera for this activity too, together with binoculars to check out all the action on the ground. Balloon safaris start just before first light and provide spectacular vistas over vast swaths of the Serengeti. As if all that weren’t enough, you’ll descend to a champagne breakfast, before being returned to the lodge. Highly recommended!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
