"A beautifully elegant property with just six unique villas, offering an indulgent experience. It's located on the remote Michamvi Penisula, so the beach isn't huge, but there are two pools, a small gym and spa, and a movie room in case you want to escape the watersports!"

OVERVIEW:

Qambani is privately owned and operated. Originally envisaged as a family home, today it offers luxury accommodation and superb service standards. It can be booked on a full-board or self-catering basis, both including parking, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. For full-board guests, the price of your stay includes all meals, bottled water, and hot drinks. At extra cost, babysitting and childminding can be organized.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Most travelers fly out to Zanzibar from Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam, touching down at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. The drive from the airport to Qambani is approximately 66 kilometers and the travel time is about an hour and 20 minutes. The property is situated on the tip of the Michamvi Peninsula, which lies off Zanzibar’s east coast. It’s set on a hillside and surrounded by trees, above a white-sand beach – beautiful!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT QAMBANI:

Constructed using wood, stone, and makuti thatch, and featuring timber-framed glass windows, all six villas at Qambani are air-conditioned as well as individually named and styled. Africa and Plantation have one bedroom each, with a modest lounge area and a spacious en-suite bathroom. From the bedroom, stairs lead up to a separate space for a daybed, and doors open onto a large veranda. The other one-bedroom villa is Plantation, closer to the ocean and benefiting from a generous roof veranda offering amazing views. Castaway and Coastal provide one double bedroom and one twin room, both en suite. The en-suite facilities to the double room include a blissful outside shower! These villas have a lounge and private veranda too. Finally, Sultan boasts two double bedrooms, both with outside shower, and an al fresco seating area complete with terrace. Amenities common to all villas are a mini-fridge, an espresso machine, an electronic safe, a Sonos sound system, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Qambani’s communal spaces are found at approximately the center of the site. They include a large lounge, which has a high makuti thatch roof and a wall of wooden doors – these are usually fully opened to let in refreshing ocean breezes. In terms of furnishings, there are two well-cushioned sofas on either side of a chunky coffee table, additional seating alongside, occasional tables, contemporary-look lighting, a few Zanzibari artifacts, and a couple of plush rugs for a cozy feel. The lounge contains a bar too, which provides everything from soft drinks to cocktails! Adjoining this area is the media room, offering additional comfy seating, a flatscreen satellite television, and DVDs, while the gym is just next door for keep-fit fans and a small massage room is available for anyone in need of a pampering session. The dining room at Qambani features a long table and smart upright chairs for communal meals, and staff are happy to arrange outdoor snacks and meals including barbecues. The air-conditioned kitchen has everything a chef could desire to rustle up some delicious dishes – and its marble surfaces add a touch of glamour too! Outside spaces include a spacious terrace, accessed from the lounge and complete with dining area and plunge pool. Below the terrace, there’s a generously proportioned infinity pool, with sun loungers and a bar. Qambani also has a saltwater pool, split over two levels – and finally, from here, a path takes you all the way down to the beach, with its gorgeous white sands and sparkling turquoise water!

ACTIVITIES AT QAMBANI:

  • The beach is the setting for snorkeling – equipment is provided at Qambani and there’s an exciting variety of snorkel spots to explore.
  • You can windsurf and go kayaking here too, or out at Paje or Jambiani on the south-east coast. Kite surfing is possible at Paje or Jambiani too!
