And if you are considering getting married in the Kruger, the Lodge provides a superb wedding package – for more details, just read on!

ACCESS & LOCATION:
The Thornybush private reserve is located in the western region of Kruger National Park. The Lodge occupies an extensive site of woodland and well-kept gardens overlooking the lake.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
All communal buildings are designed to merge with their natural surroundings and have been built using stone, wood, and thatch. They include a generously proportioned Reception flowing through to relaxing lounge areas and an elegant dining room. The main lounge also serves as a library, with internet access for those who need to check their emails! It contains plenty of cushioned seating around wooden chests and coffee tables, with a central fireplace to keep guests warm during chillier times. There are overhead fans for when the weather turns hotter, as well as wildlife artwork on the walls and a few interesting artefacts around the room. Outside, a large space is dedicated to outdoor dining, a circular bar offers a relaxing location to enjoy a drink while getting to know your fellow travellers, and a traditional boma is the perfect place for getting comfy around a camp fire and swapping stories of your day on safari! The Lodge also has a pool and a curio shop, in addition to conference facilities.

Guest accommodation at Waterside Lodge consists of 20 thatched suites, connected to the communal areas via pathways through the trees and gardens. Each unit is half of a stone, wood, and thatch single-storey building. Two suites have an interleading door, making them the ideal option for a family or other group of travellers. Every suite has air conditioning, a telephone, a mini bar, a safe, a tea-and-coffee station, a hairdryer, an en-suite bath and shower room, and a private deck area! Beds can be configured as a double or twins. There are also a couple of easy chairs, a coffee table, snug rugs, and wildlife artwork. Overall the accommodation is very well appointed, providing a sumptuous sort of base from which to head out and explore the reserve!

ACTIVITIES:
Activities from Waterside Lodge are all about checking out the local wildlife, on dawn and dusk game drives and adventurous walking safaris. All Big Five animals are commonly spotted within the reserve – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino. There are impressive concentrations of other predators and herbivores, such as cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, zebra, antelopes, and hippos. Among the 114 species of reptile are crocs, rock pythons, and black mamba! The bird life is also first rate, comprising 517 resident, migrant, and nomad species. A guided walk in Thornybush is a fantastic opportunity to spot all the small things that you might miss from the safari vehicle. You can follow the tracks of a leopard or stop to watch a ground hornbill roaming through the bushveld. There is loads to see in this part of the world!

Guests of Waterside have access to the spa at Thornybush Game Lodge, where you can unwind with a massage while listening to the sounds of nature all around you. And the wedding package includes a dedicated lodge wedding coordinator, a choice of ceremonies, flowers, cake, reception, and honeymoon turn-down. For a little extra, you can book a hairdresser, a make-up artist, decorations, a photographer, and even tribal dancing! There really is a lot of choice when it comes to organising your special day, so do get in touch with us if you would like to discuss this further.
