The Clarendon Fresnaye

When To Visit Cape Town:
left arrow image right arrow image
“Sister property to the Clarendon at Bantry Bay, Fresnaye is overshadowed by the wow-factor offered by the views from its sibling. However, this is still a great property and one that’s well worth considering due to the slightly lower rates and very homely feel.”

The Clarendon Fresnaye has a spectacular location and is renowned for high levels of personalised service! Offering accommodation for family use, it’s well suited to couples and honeymooners too.

Listed in The Clarendon Collection, Fresnaye is part of an impressive portfolio that includes two boutique hotels and a couple of private villas, all in the vibrant Cape Town. This hotel was once owned by both the governor of the Cape region and the Earl of Clarendon! Accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, featuring breakfast, afternoon teas and coffees, and in-room Wi-Fi. Fresnaye is open throughout the year.

Access & location:

The hotel is accessed via 25 minutes’ road transfer from Cape Town International Airport. It has a wonderful location, on the slopes of Lion’s Head within the peaceful suburb of Fresnaye.

Accommodation & facilities at the Clarendon Fresnaye:

Guest accommodation consists of a selection of standard rooms, superior rooms, and family rooms. All are very well presented, merging modern furnishings and traditional fabrics, and with beautiful views of either the hotel’s gardens, the mountains, or the Atlantic Ocean! Each Standard Room contains a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, a separate seating area, and storage space. Amenities include air conditioning, a direct dial telephone, a flatscreen satellite television, a tea-and-coffee station, a fully stocked mini-bar, morning and evening newspapers, and a hairdryer. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and shower. The Superior Room option benefits from all the features of the standard room, as well as extra space – and some en-suite washrooms also offer a bath as well as a shower. Finally, the Family Suite offers a second bedroom for children and one full bathroom. A babysitting service is available, as is a laundry service, both incurring an additional cost.

The communal facilities at The Clarendon Fresnaye are just as well appointed as the guest accommodation. In the lounge, you’ll find comfortable seating around coffee tables and a very relaxing ambience. The dining room offers an elegant setting in which to enjoy breakfast every morning, with its chic tables-and-chairs, welcoming fireplace, and twinkling chandeliers overhead! Lunches and dinners can be arranged on request. The hotel has a balcony too, which provides a delightful spot for some al fresco lounging and dining. The gardens are immaculately kept, and perfect for a stroll in between excursions into Cape Town and farther afield. They include not one, but two swimming pools – and both have highly inviting sunloungers positioned alongside!

Activities at the Clarendon Fresnaye:

The Clarendon Fresnaye is well placed for guests to head out and visit many of Cape Town’s most popular attractions! Here are just a few things to see and do in and around the Mother City:

  • Table mountain aerial gateway

    - Take a ride up the majestic mountain by cable car, and you’ll marvel at thrilling vistas across the region!
  • Robben island

    - This is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years behind bars. The island is situated approximately 7 kilometres off the coast, and it’s accessed from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
  • V&A waterfront

    - Shops, markets, eateries, bars… no stay in the Mother City is complete without at least one excursion to the bustling V&A!
  • Kirstenbosch botanical gardens

    - These gardens are an ideal destination for a picnic lunch. Positively overflowing with indigenous flora, they’re fascinating for anyone with an interest in plant life.
  • District six museum

    - This is a very absorbing exhibition of images, artefacts, and recordings, many of them supplied by ex-residents of the district.
  • Castle of good hope

    - This pentagon-shaped structure is the oldest building in South Africa. It’s home to the Castle Military Museum, a must-visit for history fans.
  • Houses of Parliment

    - Also highly recommended for history buffs, the houses offers guided tours, hearing attendances, and opportunities to watch debates from its gallery.
  • Cape Town international convention centre

    - Hosting concerts, trade shows, and festivals, the centre is well worth a visit. We’ll be happy to let you know what’ll be happening there during your stay at Fresnaye.
  • Camps bay beach

    - We think Camps is the most glamorous sandy spot in Cape Town! Head there for beach activities, fine dining, or just soaking up some sun.
  • Clifton beach

    - This sheltered series of four coves, located not far from Camps Bay, is another top pick at YZ. Its 4th Beach is next to La Med, our go-to sundowners spot.
  • Cape point

    - Why not take an excursion to Africa’s south-western tip, which is famous for its beaches? While you’re here, you could also visit Boulders Beach to see lots of penguins, and Simonstown or Fishhoek for a little culture too.
