OVERVIEW:

Silvan Safari Lodge is the latest safari property to open in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. The new property has accommodation to suit most types of traveler, including a suite for families, and may be booked on an exclusive-use basis.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The Sabi Sands area is accessed from Johannesburg’s O. R. Tambo International Airport. Guests have two options for traveling to Silvan Safari Lodge – a twice-daily scheduled flight to the Sabi Sands or a connecting flight to Kruger Mpumalanga followed by road transfer to the reserve.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SILVAN SAFARI LODGE:

Guest accommodation at Silvan consists of six suites, or ‘pods’, all positioned on either side of the communal building. Each is named after a tree, such as ‘Cassia’ and ‘Knobthorn’. Five sleep a maximum of two adults, and one is designed for families. Each standard suite features a four-poster king-size bed, bedside tables and lighting, a large lounge, air conditioning, and en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, twin washbasins, double shower, and central bathtub. Outside, there is a deck with sunloungers and a private pool! All suites come with exquisite soft furnishings and beautiful décor. And the family suite, ‘Leadwood’, benefits from an additional bedroom and an enormous leadwood tree rising up through the deck.

As soon as you have arrived, it is clear that the natural surroundings have inspired the property’s name – the lodge and guest accommodation are positioned in the midst of leadwood and jackalberry trees. Made mostly of timber, the buildings blend beautifully into the forest, and the Manyeleti river runs past the site. The lodge interiors include a lounge, dining area, and bar. The lounge boasts super-plush seating, a coffee table, several occasional tables, and a lovely view through wide open doors. This space adjoins a dining area featuring chic separate tables and upright chairs. Guests can also enjoy eating and drinking on the property’s deck, which incorporates the spacious lap pool! A spa is also available, at a separate location – guests cross a bridge to get to Ansellia, where staff offer relaxing massages and other treatments in a very serene environment.

ACTIVITIES AT SILVAN SAFARI LODGE:

Silvan’s activity list includes game drives, forest walks, and bush dinners. The drives take place in early morning and late afternoon. There is plenty to see in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve! The area shares an unfenced boundary with the mighty Kruger National Park, enabling wildlife to roam freely between locations.

  • All Big Five live here – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. The predator count also features cheetah, hyena, serval, caracal, jackals, and wild dog, while herbivores in residence include giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, nyala, steenbok, and tsessebe.
  • Chacma baboon and vervet monkey may be spotted in woody areas, while the rivers are home to hippo and a fine variety of birdlife. Black duck, night heron, half-collared kingfisher… these specials and many more may be spotted in and around the water.
  • Other birding treats include hawk eagle, emerald cuckoo, and Shelley’s francolin.
  • You can also wander through the forests close to the lodge, and after a day of exploring tuck in to a delicious bush dinner. Every day brings a new adventure, another discovery to be made.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
