Uplands Homestead is one of two exclusive-use villas on Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. There is no better way for a group of family members or friends to enjoy a safari.

Originally built in 1905, this farmhouse property has been lovingly restored to capture all the charm and grace of yesteryear. If you have a slightly larger family or prefer something a little more current and African in style, you need look no further than Uplands Homestead’s sister property, Melton Manor.

Situated about two-and-a-half hours from Port Elizabeth, the reserve is easily accessed by road but scheduled and charter flights are also available for added convenience. Kwandwe’s 54,000 acres of pristine wilderness are home to the Big Five as well as a diversity of smaller and unique species. This vast expanse of wildlife flanks both the north and south banks of the Great Fish River, which meanders for 19 miles through the reserve. The location of Uplands Homestead makes it perfect for adding on to any Garden Route itinerary.

Three suites with private bathrooms combine modern comfort with old-fashioned luxury and attention to detail. Antique mirrors, claw-foot bathtubs and yellowwood chests blend seamlessly with air conditioning and other contemporary conveniences. Uplands Homestead strikes a perfect balance between the genteel and the wild. It even plays host to a full-sized swimming pool and gazebo set amongst rolling lawns.

The heart of any farmhouse is its kitchen, and Uplands is no exception. Your dedicated, skilled chef will create both old family favourites as well as sumptuous new dishes to inspire and delight.

Activities on offer include morning and evening game drives, in search of the big game species inhabiting the reserve. After breakfast bush walks are an option for guests who enjoy spending some time looking at the smaller animals and plants in more detail. Fishing, boating and picnics are also available. The big difference here is that your private 4×4 safari vehicle, complete with your very own guide and tracker, allows you full flexibility during your safaris.
