OVERVIEW:
Chitwa Chitwa is beautifully decorated, with colors and textures reflecting the serenity of the African bush outside, and located in the exclusive Sabi Sand reserve. This reserve is a wonderful place to come on safari, particularly as the Big Five can be seen here throughout the year.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Chitwa Chitwa is situated on the banks of a large lake in the northern section of Sabi Sand.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CHITWA CHITWA:
The ten rooms are laid out around the waterhole. They are spaced far apart so that they are completely private. These suites are some of the most comfortable, and certainly the largest, that we have ever seen. The bedroom features a vast four-poster bed, there is a large lounge, and a luxurious bathroom with inside and outside showers. The windows are massive and look out onto the bush. The large decking area outside is a perfect place to relax while watching the waterhole, and there is even a plunge pool so you can cool off if you get too hot.
Breakfast and lunch are taken in a large gazebo outside from which guests can watch the 16 resident hippos basking in the sun.
Chitwa also caters extremely well for young children, offering ‘an eco-experience’ with activities such as bush walks and making plaster of paris moulds of animal spoor. Not only are there two family suites with an accompanying lounge, but each suite can accommodate two extra beds for children under 12.
ACTIVITIES AT CHITWA CHITWA:
The Sabi Sands is famous for luxury lodges, so Chitwa has some serious competition.
- However, not only is it in a beautiful location, but it has the advantage of being privately owned which creates a much more personal atmosphere than is found in most of the other camps in the reserve.
- The camp's only negative is that it shares its game-drive area with a number of other lodges; this means that the number of other vehicles in the area is rather high.
- Nevertheless, Chitwa is a popular lodge that combines great luxury with fantastic game-viewing.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
