"Cathedral Peak first opened its doors as a hotel in 1939, and is still a firm favorite in the Drakensberg. Where the hotel lacks in style, it makes up for it in service and superb hospitality."

OVERVIEW:

We don't often recommend large hotels as we tend to prefer smaller, more personal properties, however, we make an exception for Cathedral Peak Hotel as it is in such a fabulous setting and offers so many different activities.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Cathedral Peak hotel is a large resort hotel in the heart of the Drakensberg mountains. It is nestled under a range of mountains and looks directly up at Cathedral Peak itself.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CATHEDRAL PEAK HOTEL:

The hotel has been around for many years, yet the décor and furnishings are modern and comfortable. There are several categories of room, ranging from the simple to the luxurious. All the rooms have some sort of view, but some are breathtaking.

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a room without a balcony for safety reasons.

ACTIVITIES AT CATHEDRAL PEAK HOTEL:

  • Although the hotel is large – 104 rooms in total– there is so much space outside, it is easy to forget that there are other people around! This is a fabulous area for walking or even mountain biking as there are miles of trails near the hotel.
  • There are numerous other activities to keep guests busy – guided horse and pony rides, tennis, squash, bowls, badminton, table tennis, mini golf, archery, a 10 m climbing tower, quad biking and even a spectacular 9 hole golf course.
  • There is also a recreation area with a large swimming pool, gym and steam bath.
  • The hotel is particularly good for children; activities include pony rides, a children's playground, heated paddling pool, bouncy castle and a trampoline. There is a separate children's dining room for younger children, and babysitting is available on request.
