This is where you want to end your safari journey and get absolutely blown away by its 5-star service and incredible river setting. The entire property has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the beauty of the Sabi Sand reserve and allow you to experience its beauty in the most intimate way."

OVERVIEW:

Tengile River Lodge is owned and operated by &Beyond, a name that’s synonymous with luxurious accommodation in some of the most spectacular wildlife regions worldwide. One of the most recent additions to the company’s portfolio, Tengile looks set to become another superb safari property in the Sabi Sands. Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including three meals daily, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all safari activities, transfers between the lodge and Skukuza Airport, and a laundry service. The lodge is open all year round. There’s a minimum age requirement of 12 years, and access for disabled persons can be arranged.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The lodge is accessed via road transfer from Skukuza Airport. It’s situated on a curve of the Sand river, within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The word Tengile means ‘tranquil’, which is very apt for the lodge’s location.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE &BEYOND TENGILE RIVER LODGE:

Guest accommodation consists of nine suites. Two of these are placed closely together, and they can be linked to provide a double unit for family use. The others are spaced well apart, and all are positioned in the shade of trees on the riverbank. Each suite is raised well above ground level and appears to be floating over the river! Entering, you’ll find a spacious bedroom with double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, and end-of-bed storage. Adjacent to this space is a sunken lounge, featuring comfy seating, personal bar, and table-and-chairs for private dining with a lovely river view. Washing facilities are located on the opposite side of the suite, and they comprise separate flush toilet, twin washbasins, indoor/outdoor showers, and bathtub. Additional in-room amenities include air conditioning, overhead fans, telephone, safe, and hairdryer. Sliding doors lead from the bedroom onto a generously proportioned private deck, boasting outdoor seating and dining spaces in addition to a plunge pool!

Most of the communal facilities at Tengile are set out at roughly the center of the site, accessed from the guest suites along well-marked pathways. You can take time between activities to relax in the sumptuous lounge, with its medley of plush seating, tree-trunk coffee table, and cozy fireplace. This space flows into the bar area, featuring well-padded bar stools and of course a fine variety of alcoholic and soft drinks. The sophisticated dining area is the other side of the bar, and it’s the setting for delicious meals. Tengile has a safari shop too, as well as a gym and a massage sala. One of our favorite spots is the viewing deck, where you can enjoy watching for wildlife! Finally, there’s a swimming pool, perfect for relaxing in between trips into the Sabi Sands.

ACTIVITIES AT THE &BEYOND TENGILE RIVER LODGE:

&Beyond Tengile River Lodge offers a thrilling range of activities, as follows:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - These take place in early morning and late afternoon into evening every day. The Sabi Sands is home to a real wealth of wildlife, benefiting from an unfenced boundary with the mighty Kruger National Park! The reserve covers 65,000 hectares of savanna, woodlands, water sources, and more. Wildlife highlights include all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – and the area is renowned for its leopard sightings. You can also look out for numerous smaller predators and herbivores, not least cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and all sorts of antelopes! There are hundreds of bird species too.
  • Interpretive bush walks

    - Accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide, walks provide opportunities to take a close look at the smaller lives of the reserve, such as the plants, insects, and birdlife. And you can discover how to track big game!
  • Local community visit

    - Take a trip to one of the villages that surround the Sabi Sands, to learn about the local people’s ways of life. You could visit a crèche, a school, and even a craft center.
  • Specialist star photography lesson

    - Famous photographer Andrew Schoeman is on site, and you can book a session with him to improve your photography skills! The focus is night photography, including selecting a suitable location, setting up a great composition, and capturing that perfect shot.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
