"A fantastic tented-style property, located in the heart of the iconic Shamwari Private Game Reserve."

OVERVIEW:

We recommend Bayethe to travelers who like the combination of traditional safari lodge and creature comforts on vacation! Riverdene Lodge and Sarili Lodge are better options for families with children, but Bayethe is hard to beat for its authentic style.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Bayethe Lodge is situated in the north-east region of Shamwari Game Reserve, surrounded by dense bushveld and close to a busy waterhole.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT BAYETHE LODGE:

The communal areas of Bayethe are housed within stone-and-thatch buildings, in the style of an authentic safari lodge. They include two comfortable lounge areas (one with flatscreen TV), an indoor dining area, a gift boutique, the Bush Relaxation Retreat and an outdoor dining deck. The deck overlooks the waterhole. There is also a traditional boma, where guests enjoy sitting around a campfire and exchanging stories! Internet access is available via the business desk and there is a Wi-Fi connection in the main office.

Bayethe’s guest accommodation comprises 12 detached tents, each sleeping a maximum of two adults. There are four categories – ‘Bayethe Hills’ king-bedded superior tent and twin-bedded superior tent and ‘Bayethe Luxury’ king-bedded luxury tent and twin-bedded luxury tent. All options are air-conditioned and feature mini bar and private deck. The superior tents boast fireplace, television, hammock, and en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, while the luxury tents benefit from IDD telephone, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and electronic safe. The luxury twin rooms have indoor bath and outdoor shower, while the luxury king-bed rooms have indoor spa bath with indoor shower.

ACTIVITIES AT BAYETHE LODGE:

  • Bayethe Lodge is well positioned within the reserve to offer first-rate game drives. These take place at sunrise and sunset, for about three hours, with coffee/tea and sundowners served respectively en route.
  • Shamwari teems with wildlife – all Big Five animals, plus an impressive assortment of antelope species, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, wild dog, hyena and hippo!
  • The birdlife is just as plentiful – there are amazing quantities of raptors and waterbirds in addition to species such as oxpeckers, hoopoe and starlings that thrive in the grasslands.
  • It is possible to arrange game walks and nature walks, which involve tracking and detailed identification.
  • Guests also enjoy visits to three local centers – Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre, where young, orphaned, injured or abandoned animals are nurtured back to health; the Dr Ian Player Rhino Awareness Centre, where you can learn about endeavors to conserve the majestic creatures; and the Born Free Foundation Animal Research & Education Centre, which focuses on the exploitation of wildlife in captivity.
  • Children are welcome at all three centers, though those aged under 4 years must be supervised by an adult.
