"This is a lovely little guesthouse that we have been using for years. It’s not overly luxurious, but it's still comfortable, well-run, and well-located. It is also very reasonably priced."

OVERVIEW:

Abbey Manor Luxury Guesthouse is a particularly plush option for travelers hoping to visit Cape Town and see all the sights of this vibrant city! The name Oranjezicht means ‘sight of orange’, referring to views of orange groves in Company Gardens nearby. The property was built in 1905 for businessman David Edward McConnell and today it is owned by locals Doris and Dirk.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Just a short distance from all the major attractions of the Mother City, it is ideal for travelers hoping to explore the area. Oranjezicht is accessible via road transfer from Cape Town International Airport, a journey of only 20 kilometers. Abbey Manor is a Georgian house and easy to spot at its address, 3 Montrose Avenue.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ABBEY MANOR LUXURY GUESTHOUSE:

It is a lofty building featuring walls that are part whitewashed and part exposed stone, as well as a sturdy tiled roof. A flight of steps leads up to the front door and the communal spaces beyond. The lounge contains a mixture of leather and soft-fabric seating around a coffee table strewn with reading material – an additional collection of books is available from a glass-fronted bookcase just inside the door. A couple of wall mirrors positioned opposite the windows add light and there is also an honesty bar, with a good selection of local wines! Guests who enjoy relaxing outdoors will love the rooftop terrace with its breathtaking views towards Table Mountain and down into Cape Town. Alternatively, you can soak up some sunshine in Abbey Manor’s delightful garden, or take a dip in the solar-heated swimming pool!

Guest accommodation here comes in two categories – Grand Room and Luxury Room. Both options boast air conditioning, telephone, satellite television, wireless internet access, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and a mini-bar. All rooms are individually decorated, configured as either a twin room or double room, and very spacious. The style defines sumptuous – deluxe cotton sheets, gorgeous bedspreads, elegant lighting, sophisticated artwork, and exceptionally well-appointed en-suite bathrooms. And every room has an amazing view over the Mother City!

ACTIVITIES AT ABBEY MANOR LUXURY GUESTHOUSE:

As far as activities are concerned, there is so much to do here. Staff members are happy to help you decide how best to pass your time.

  • You could start by taking a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, or even hike if you are feeling fit!
  • Another major attraction, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, is just a short drive from Abbey Manor. Here you can visit the Two Oceans Aquarium, the Telkom Exploratorium, the SA Maritime Museum, and a great range of art galleries, specialty stores, and curio shops.
  • A number of city tours are available, and you can buy tickets at Abbey Manor. If you appreciate plant life, we strongly suggest a trip to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens! Cape Peninsula is also worth a visit for its historic interest, fishing villages, and numerous captivating vistas along the way. Even farther afield, you might like to consider excursions to the Cape of Good Hope, Robben Island, and the scenic Winelands too.
  • Sports are also possible, including sailing, parasailing, horse riding, and golf – Doris and Dirk know the local golf courses very well and they will gladly provide recommendations!
  • Service standards in general are sky high at this lofty Georgian manor. The price of your stay includes a hearty continental or cooked breakfast and the property is very close to Kloof Street, which is known as ‘restaurant mile’.
