Namibia in February

February

February is Namibia’s wettest month – but if you can tolerate the rain there’s plenty to enjoy, such as the calving season, lots of migratory birds, and baby meerkats in the country’s dune regions.

What’s the weather going to be like in Namibia in February

  • Days are hot, with strong possibilities of afternoon downpours
  • It’s the middle of wet season, and one of the wettest months in Namibia
  • Temperatures are high

What are the highlights of visiting Namibia in February

  • Availability of properties is good
  • Rates are relatively low
  • As it’s low season, there are far fewer tourists
  • Wildlife in Namibia’s dunes tends to be very active at this time of year – for example, Cape fox and meerkats with their young
  • It’s a great time for birders, particularly for the 450 species in the Caprivi Strip and the vast flocks of flamingo across Swakopmund’s scenic lagoons
  • The water levels of the Kunene river are spectacularly high, perfect for boating safaris featuring water birds

Any lowlights?

  • It can feel very hot and humid in parts of the country
  • Some travellers might not enjoy all the rain
  • As there’s so much water about, animals are more dispersed through Namibia’s safari areas
  • There are more mosquitoes than in the dry season
  • Vehicle safaris tend to yield fewer sightings this month than during the dry season – this is particularly true of Etosha National Park
