"Onkoshi is a Namibia Wildlife Resorts property, and we are yet to visit the camp. Uniquely positioned to the north of the Namutoni Gate, it's a property we seldom use as service and food in camp can be hit and miss. However, it is one of the few properties in the park itself and a good option if you have your own private guide to smooth over any issues during your stay."

OVERVIEW:

Here at YZ, we rate Onkoshi Camp pretty highly! The remote location is a major draw, bringing you the very best of Etosha. Service standards at Onkoshi Camp are excellent. Little details, such as transfers from and to Namutoni Camp, make all the difference. Staff are efficient and friendly, happy to provide their expert advice on this amazingly remote location.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Onkoshi Camp has been designed to offer a jaw-dropping location for guests, with sweeping views over the Etosha Pan. Its location on an isolated peninsula in northern Namibia.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ONKOSHI CAMP:

The entire premises is built on stilts, maximizing those extraordinary vistas! Thatched roofs provide a cool space and the extensive central area includes a spacious lounge with plenty of spaces to sit and relax, either alone or in company. The dining area is also a grand affair, with individual tables for restaurant-style dining. Eating at Onkoshi Camp is a wonderful experience, with guests welcome to while away the evening hours as the sun goes down on another amazing day in Etosha. Outside you will find a gorgeous swimming pool, perfect for cooling off from the midday sun and relaxing for a few hours when you are not out in the wild of the salt pans!

There are 15 spacious chalets in total – one of these is a special unit for honeymooners. All chalets have a thatched roof and canvas walls, with wood-framed retractable doors functioning as the portals to every sumptuous room. The rooms are cool and calm, with a lot of space available. Twin beds, some hanging space, and a sleeper couch for smaller guests (for young families) complete the pleasant interior furnishings. Every room has an en-suite bathroom, featuring a stone bathtub. You can soak in the bubbles and wash away all of your troubles as you look out onto the Etosha Pan! There is also the choice between an indoor and an outdoor shower. If you choose the latter, you can wash with nature all around and the sounds of Namibian wildlife in your ears! The chalets have been built on raised wooden decks – this offers some privacy, while providing incredible views from wherever you are seated.

ACTIVITIES AT ONKOSHI CAMP:

The Etosha Pan and surrounding areas are glorious merely to look at, but at Onkoshi Camp you are invited to spend time learning more about the salt plains as you journey through them on a variety of activities.

  • These include game drives by day and by night, as well as walking safaris. You can witness nature’s big beasts in close up, from blue wildebeest to elephant, leopard, giraffe, lion, and rhino! Guided day and moonlight walks on the Etosha Pan itself are also a popular option. The best part about Onkoshi Camp, however, is its position in a prime and secluded area of Etosha National Park.
  • Some areas around the premises of the Camp are only accessible via permit, which usually results in those guests staying at Onkoshi. This is an incredible opportunity to see parts of the National Park that no one else ever gets to experience – and with no possibility of running into other tourists along the way, as you will be the only people there! Whichever activity you choose, you can be sure of some fantastic photo opportunities and a truly thrilling time.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
