ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is located on the private Onguma Reserve, which borders the eastern side of Etosha National Park

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ONGUMA TENTED CAMP:

As soon as you enter Onguma Tented Camp, you will be welcomed by three handcrafted giraffes, which look over the whole camp to keep you safe. They are truly wonderful, indicating the type of stay you can expect here! The main area is open-fronted, with three tented roofs and large wooden poles supporting the whole structure. Two comfortable guest lounges provide beanbags to slouch back into, while armchairs and lavish sofas are filled with scatter cushions. The décor in the communal areas is a mixture of modern sophistication and earthy tones, with a large fireplace built into the limestone wall to keep guests warm during the winter months. For dining, there is a separate roofed area, which in the warm summer months opens out on one side, so you can dine while looking out at the spectacular waterhole, which is also floodlit at night. Follow a clean and inviting walkway to a beautiful area where you can sit around on sunloungers or beanbags, or jump into the infinity pool for a soothing hour or three!

From the communal areas, there is a pretty gravel pathway linking to seven tented rooms, all with amazing views of the waterhole on the reserve. Each is similar, apart from the location of the bathrooms, which are en-suite with twin washbasins adding to the romantic feel of the accommodation. The bathrooms are the other side of high limestone walls, with big mirrors hanging above. There is the choice of a walk-in shower or a large freestanding bathtub. From the bath, you have amazing views of the surrounding bush! To top up the authentic nature of the tent, all of your bath salts can be found atop a tree stump, with shower gel and shampoo provided. There is also an outdoor shower available to every room, should you wish to get closer to nature each morning. The rooms are raised on a wooden platform, with a veranda partly shaded and two armchairs for resting and looking out at the wildlife. Double sliding-glass doors with roll-down canvas flaps are at the entrance to each room and animal-skin rugs can be found at the foot of twin beds, pushed against a headboard adorned with tea lights. Adjustable reading lamps on the bedside table, full-length mirrors and a straw shopping bag with pool towels and linen complete the feel. The Onguma tent is perfect for a romantic night or two!

ACTIVITIES AT ONGUMA TENTED CAMP:

  • Many of the camps and lodges close to Etosha National Park cater for visitors who are looking to drive themselves to the park, and Onguma Tented Camp welcomes those types of guests. However, great care has been put into compiling a range of activities to suit all visitors.
  • There are morning game drives into the camp itself as a guided tour, and within Onguma reserve you can take part in sunset and night-time drives.
  • The wildlife on show at the waterhole at the site of the camp is beautiful, and you can sit from many a spot on the property and take photos and view all sorts of animals.
  • Around the private reserve, you can also be taken on an interpretative bush walk and see close up the many birds, animals and vegetation in this most beautiful part of the world!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
