OVERVIEW:

Onguma Camp Kala is privately owned and run. Designed by architect Nick Plewman, and with interiors coordinated by Fox Browne Creative, it’s a stunning little camp! Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, all alcoholic and soft drinks, morning and sunset vehicle safaris, transfers between camp and the Onguma airstrip, and Wi-Fi. The camp is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is situated in the Onguma Private Reserve, on the eastern border of Namibia’s Etosha National Park. It is accessed via road transfer from other parts of the country or from Onguma’s airfield.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ONGUMA CAMP KALA:

There are just four guest suites, booked individually or together for exclusive use of the entire camp. When the camp is booked by one party, an extra bed may be added to each suite. All suites are raised on wooden decks and linked via elevated walkways. Inside, each has either twin beds or a king-size bed, a sophisticated air-cooling system, and a seating area complete with fully stocked personal bar. Other amenities include mosquito nets, tea- and coffee-making facilities, in-room safe, hairdryer, and Wi-Fi. The en-suite washrooms, separated from every bedroom via a hand-stitched curtain, feature a bespoke double vanity, a generously proportioned shower, and a full-size bathtub. Additionally, all suites offer a private deck with firepit, an outside shower, and a wood-fired hot tub. Another walkway leads to a shaded sala with a king-size day bed, ideal for watching the local wildlife and sleeping out under the stars!

The communal areas at Onguma Camp Kala are every inch as impressive as the suite accommodation. Also raised above ground level, they are housed in a structure with a thatched roof and feature a mud-plastered conical tower built to resemble a termite mound. The main lounge is sumptuous, with its comfortable seating and well-stocked cocktail bar. Adjoining the dining area, is the open-plan kitchen and even an all-day pantry! Guests can relax on the main deck, with its amazing views and night-time firepit. There is also a ground-level photographic hide too, as well as a gym, a treatment room for massages, and a yoga deck.

ACTIVITIES AT ONGUMA CAMP KALA:

The camp is well placed to offer classic safari activities:

  • Expertly guided morning game drives

    – Scheduled to avoid the heat of the day, morning drives start early from camp and offer exciting opportunities to view the local wildlife. Onguma Private Reserve is home to all the Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Numerous smaller predators and herbivores live here too, among them cheetah, brown and spotted hyenas, silver and black-backed jackals, caracal, giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, eland, impala, kudu, gemsbok, springbok, steenbok, and many more!
  • Sunset game drives

    – Also led by an expert from camp, these drives are fantastic for anyone hoping to catch a glimpse of the wildlife that comes out at night, such as leopard and civet.
  • Interpretative bush walks

    – Walks in the reserve are highly recommended for any safarists keen to get to know the smaller lives here: the plants, insects, and birds.
