"Formerly named Desert Homestead Outpost, Namib Outpost offers a secluded retreat from the crowds, perfect for exploring Sossusvlei. Its elevated rooms showcase the stunning landscape, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a more remote setting."

OVERVIEW:

With the stunning views and tranquil, private surroundings in each house on the property, guests will love the chance to spend quality time here. The service is friendly and welcoming in the communal areas and the staff will go the extra mile to help out with excursions, including special trips such as the hot air balloon safari and the horse safaris. One thing is for sure – you will have plenty of excitement and adventure!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is a fantastic starting point and base for exploring the Sossusvlei area – and at just 30km from the Sesriem gate, it is not far from the awe-inspiring Namib-Naikluft National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NAMIB OUTPOST:

Outside the gates of Namib Outpost you will find some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. It will captivate you and bring you closer to nature! There is nothing wrong with a bit of luxury at the centre of your expedition, however, and you will find an oasis in the desert here. The central hub of the lodge is a large structure, made of brick and with a thatched roof. It looks like an authentic desert outpost and inside there is a sumptuous restaurant, bar and lounge area where you can relax and unwind after a trek. In the summer months the heat can be intense, so why not sample one of the shaded areas on the terrace or go for a dip in the swimming pool? And remember, there are shaded car parking spaces, so you do not have to worry about an overheated car seat when you leave! The main house is set on the base of a mountain and there are impressive panoramic views, especially from the observation deck above the lodge.

The accommodation is geared towards relaxation, with panoramic views available from all twelve houses. You can sit and gaze at the stars at night from your private sleeping deck, watch sunset or sunrise with your family and friends, and generally feel at one with nature! Every room at Namib Outpost includes a private shaded viewing deck, mosquito nets to keep away the pesky biters at night, air conditioning and separate en-suite bathrooms. Some of the houses also offer an outside shower for your private use. It will feel like you have got the world to yourself, giving you the chance to seriously unwind with no pressures from the outside world! The views are stunning, the interiors luxurious, and the communal areas friendly, efficient and geared up to pamper you. As of July 2016 there will also be a Superior Suite available to guests. This will feature a bathroom, terrace, outside shower and private pool for two people alongside the fully equipped apartment.

ACTIVITIES AT NAMIB OUTPOST:

Already the lodge has built quite a reputation for its guided trail rides through the Namib Desert.

  • Horse rides are possible either during the early morning or at sunset. There are horse-riding safaris too, where you can set off for several days and camp under the stars, telling stories around the campfire with your guides and loved ones!
  • Also on offer are guided mountain trail hikes between lodges in the Sossusvlei region, in which you can experience at first hand the high red sand dunes and the small insects, springboks, oryxes and ostriches that can survive in this striking arid climate – zebra, cheetah and leopard are occasionally spotted as well.
  • If you are a keen runner, there is a clearly marked track that offers a 10km run for joggers in the morning hours before the sun comes up to its fullest height – and for some adventure above ground, you can also schedule helicopter scenic flights or hot air balloon safaris!
  • The hot air balloon rides are particularly amazing and start about 45 minutes from the outpost on a neighbouring farm, taking you over the Namib Desert to look out over the game and surrounding nature closer to the outpost.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course
