"An elegant property, where the focus is old-fashioned hospitality."

OVERVIEW:

As with all the Mushara properties, service is of a high standard here. The big difference with the Outpost is that it is the only accommodation on the reserve with a policy of a minimum age of 12 years. This ensures an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, allowing those without young children to have fully relaxing downtime either before or after a drive into the Etosha National Park and all the wonders that brings. As for the dining experience, the large table as an option is fantastic and encourages you to get right to the heart of what a traditional safari outpost would have felt like, swapping tales with the staff and other guests alike!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Mushara Outpost is an intimate and luxurious addition to the lodgings on the private Mushara reserve, and it is based just 10km from the gates of Etosha National Park.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MUSHARA OUTPOST:

Whichever Mushara destination you choose to stay in, you will find yourself pampered in a place of luxury and comfort. At Outpost, Marc and Mariza Pampe have carefully crafted an environment that is perfect for solo travelers and small groups looking for somewhere a little more comfortable than the average stop-off. The communal areas have been created to resemble a lovely old farmhouse – the main house has high walls, a roof made of corrugated iron, and a northeast-facing veranda, which wraps around the building and takes advantage of the shade. The atmosphere is friendly and guests are made to feel right at home. This ambiance continues with a long dining table for communal eating, to make you feel part of one big happy family! Separate tables are also available. The décor and furnishings are grand and traditional, with dark cozy sitting chairs, eccentric lampshades made from porcupine quills, and a small curio shop selling traditional hand-crafted trinkets to commemorate your stay. Outside you will find a swimming pool and a comfortable selection of deckchairs. There is also a small hide for those of you interested in the local birdlife, the ideal hideaway to make good use of your binoculars or camera!

There is a perfect balance between comfort and authentic safari style. The eight tents have been built using canvas, glass and wood. Each is raised 1.5m above ground on a wooden decking, which provides plenty of space for guests. A large glass sliding door leads into the tent and provides the first indication of how light and airy each tent is, with the neutral colors accentuating the feel. Windows are floor to ceiling – and there are fly-screen protectors on all panes. The beds are made with an unpretentious wicker frame, each draped with mosquito nets to save you from the biters at night. Air conditioning adds to the comfort levels, especially as a break from the hot afternoon sun! For your comfort and to bring you closer to the nature all around the reserve, an open-plan en suite with glass walls and a large open shower space can be found in each tent. Minimal furnishings add to the traditional feel, but you will find a safe, mini bar, tea and coffee station, telephone, and hairdryer in each tent. Best of all, though, is the veranda, where you can sit in privacy and enjoy the wildlife of the bush!

ACTIVITIES AT MUSHARA OUTPOST:

  • There is not a huge focus on activities in the national park itself, though you can book a guided safari drive upon request.
  • The beauty of Mushara Outpost is that you can set off on your own should you wish, with great game, wildlife and spectacular scenery just 10km away, but you also have some fantastic photo opportunities actually on site!
  • The waterholes are just a stone’s throw away and will get you close to lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, zebra, springbok, and the smaller species of the Namibian landscape.
  • Birdwatchers will love sitting in the cozy hide and looking out into the busy skies above for a real feast for the eyes!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
