When To Visit Namibia:

Kwessi Dune is a remote, high-quality camp in the private NamibRand Reserve. Due to its remote location, it is arguably a bit far for a trip to Sossusvlei, but when combined with a property closer to the Sesriem gate, it could be a great option.

OVERVIEW:

Kwessi Dune Lodge is a well-presented and well-run option within the highly scenic NamibRand Nature Reserve! However, for some travelers, it might prove a bit too far from the key sights of Sossusvlei.

Kwessi Dune Lodge is owned and operated by Natural Selection. It’s the company’s sixth property to open in Namibia, within a portfolio that features Botswana and South Africa as well. A conservation-driven tourism organization, Natural Selection is also committed to minimizing its footprint, all the while ensuring that guests enjoy a top-quality safari! Accommodation at Kwessi Dune Lodge is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, most activities (please see our Activities section below), and a laundry service. The lodge will be open from 1st March to 31st December 2020 and subsequently all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The lodge is accessed via a short road transfer from its private airstrip within the NamibRand Nature Reserve. It’s situated within a private concession covering 15,000 hectares.

??ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KWESSI DUNE LODGE:

There are just ten chalets, all positioned on the desert plains amidst rising red dunes and majestic mountains. Each have a few wooden steps up onto a private veranda, which offer a couple of chairs, a table, a hammock, and breathtaking views over the NamibRand Nature Reserve! Guests enter the chalet through timber-framed glass doors, finding themselves in a pleasantly airy space thanks to the high thatch roof of the building. The bedroom contains a vintage four-poster bed, bedside cabinets and lighting, a couple of luggage racks, a drinks stand, and a writing desk and chair too. Natural Selection describes the style as the company’s ‘usual cool and comfortable’, adding that there is ‘a few quirks along the way’ – and we particularly like the smart striped canvas walls, artwork, and plant life. The en-suite facilities include both indoor and outdoor showers. There is also a adjoining ‘star gazer’ room, where guests can drift off under the clear night skies of the NamibRand. And access for disabled travelers is possible on request.

In common with the guest chalets, the main building features wooden steps up onto a deck and a neatly thatched roof, but it’s open-sided for the most part. Inside, there’s a medley of sofas, armchairs, and poufs around coffee tables, a few chic tables-and-chairs for indoor dining, an array of bookcases making up the property’s library, and a well-stocked bar. The deck provides a nice venue for al fresco relaxing and dining, while guests marvel at the views! The campfire is set up just outside the lodge, while the swimming pool is to one side – we’ll update all these details once we’ve visited the lodge next year.
