HOW TO GET TO WILDERNESS HOANIB SKELETON COAST CAMP:

The landscape around Wilderness Hoanib is breathtaking to observe, featuring gravel plains, trees, mountains and sand dunes as far as the eye can see! Guests are flown into camp by light aircraft from Doro Nawas, enjoying amazing views en route.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT WILDERNESS HOANIB SKELETON COAST CAMP:

The main areas consist of a lounge, dining area, plunge pool and campfire. The lounge and dining area are housed within a central mess tent, elegantly structured from light canvas, wooden decking and sturdy poles. The lounge is very cozy, featuring an open fireplace, some comfortable contemporary seating, and snug rugs on the wooden floor. The palette is neutral – plenty of beige and cream – but with splashes of color, for example in the cushions and other décor. The dining area is a sophisticated space with a long table and upright chairs for communal meals, again in neutral tones. Both areas have lovely views into the concession. The plunge pool lies just outside the mess tent, flanked by a deck for sunloungers and additional dining furniture. And the campfire area is perfect for sharing stories at the end of a day spent on safari!

Wilderness Hoanib’s guest accommodation is situated just a short distance from the mess tent. It comprises eight tents, one of which is a family unit. The family unit contains two bedrooms, whereas all standard tents have one. A standard unit includes a large double bed or twin beds, a seating area with two comfy armchairs and small table, a writing desk and chair, plenty of shelving for storage, and a delightful deck with room for lounging and dining. Again, the palette is neutral plus color splashes. Each tent has its own ensuite.

WILDERNESS HOANIB SKELETON COAST CAMP ACTIVITIES:

There are lots of things to do at Wilderness Hoanib.

  • Morning, afternoon and full-day game drives are available through the spectacular scenery of the Palmwag Concession. This area boasts a striking variety of wildlife, including lion, elephant, giraffe and brown hyena, plus plenty of antelope species, scrub hare and ground squirrel. And if you head as far as the coast, you are in for a treat – namely, thousands of fur seals!
  • Nature walks beginning at camp enable guests to appreciate the smaller aspects of animal and plant life, as well as hundreds-year-old remnants of the Strandlopers (Beachcombers). It is also possible to enjoy day trips to Klein Oase and Auses Spring, both havens for birdlife!
  • And guests have the opportunity to engage with wildlife researchers at the Hoanib Research Centre – great for getting to know more about the local wildlife.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
